cow milk is produced under terrible conditions for the cows and their babies. if your stomach "can't handle milk" it has a sound ethical compass

well all the girls are doing it and, as a notorious maria-vai-com-as-outras trend-following bimbo, I think it's about time I do it too.

I'm going to write anarchist genre fiction :blobcatfluffowo:
I need deadlines and accountability so I will give myself exactly 1 moon cycle (starting from today's crescent moon) for research, and provide updates in this thread every moon phase. it will be a fantasy story about the Teotihuacan Revolution.

> But the most insidious source of the anti-trans movement in this country is, quite simply, liberals. Butler, in their survey of the political landscape, misses the liberal faction altogether. I suspect this is because the anti-trans liberal sees himself as a concerned citizen, not an ideologue. He is neither radical nor a feminist; he is not so much trans-exclusionary as he is broadly skeptical of all social-justice movements. He is a trans-agnostic reactionary liberal — a TARL. The TARL’s primary concern, to hear him tell it, lies in protecting free speech and civil society from the illiberal forces of the woke left, which, by forcing the orthodoxy of gender down the public’s throat and viciously attacking anyone who dares to ask questions, is trafficking in censorship, intimidation, and quasi-religious fanaticism. On trans people themselves, the TARL claims to take no position other than to voice his general empathy for anyone suffering from psychological distress or civil-rights violations.

> ...the demand [for gender healthcare] itself was suspect, a result of poorly explained psychological and social forces that had “bewildered” experts, whose warnings were as usual being drowned out by activists. Indeed, the average Times-reading liberal is left with the impression that, because politics obstructs the slow work of scientific consensus-building, trans people’s best shot at receiving health care is to stop asking for it.

> [Singal's] story provided a template for the coverage that would follow it. First, it took what was threatening to become a social issue, hence a question of rights, and turned it back into a medical issue, hence a question of evidence; it then quietly suggested that since the evidence was debatable, so were the rights. This tactic has been successful: The political center has moved significantly on trans issues.

I hate that modern Firefox doesn't let me ignore an expired certificate. I don't care that the admin of naturadb forgot to renew it, what is a man-in-the-middle going to do, learn that I want to know the insect rating of Erodium cheilanthifolium?

Lex doesn't work, I guess it's time to dust off my old OkCupid account—

"Unable to verify your email" wth. >tries a different email< "Unable to verify your email".

(to bae:) wth I'm shadowbanned on okc or something.
bae: did you have photos too erotic or covering your face?
me: ähm yes but what the actual fuck??
bae: yeah you can't wear masks anymore, since last year I think.

ok so my options is:

  • app where not a single person ever replies to my ads
  • "dox yourself to your local nazis! conveniently indexable by location!"
  • Tinder.

no dating for the antifa I guess :pinkgirl_cry:⛈️

how low does a girl have to go? fucking Parship??!

there's HER I guess, never tried it but maybe it's not as bad as it loo—

elilla,
@elilla@transmom.love avatar

"I see you are already texting someone in Her" "yup, I matched gothgirl" "but you already know her!! you're supposed to meet new people" "look, you can filter out swerfs and antideutsche in this app, not my fault if I always match the same people who are left"

elilla,
@elilla@transmom.love avatar

my impression of Her so far:

  • not at bad as I thought.
  • you can put a 🍉 badge on your profile and/or filter for it, also a "no swerf" badge and others. very very useful for Germany.
  • toxic tinderization like okc though.
  • there's lots of women in my age range!! it's the first dating app I see that it's not a desert over 30.
  • it wanted me to "verify" myself with a selfie recognition thing. I gave up and let it. alas the photo gets upside down after I take it (?) and the UI stops reacting. I can still use the app without the "verification", though, and I'm not forced to expose my face like OkCupid.
  • the cis lesbian gestalt is way more into Taylor Swift than I thought.
  • the trans lesbian gestalt is way more into Warhammer 40k than I thought.

welp! turns out that you're required to show your face in public after all, aand I was banned. again: no dating for the antifa :blobcatcry:

it's worse for politically sensitive cases like me, but in general it's a peculiarly First World tunnel vision, that you can just ask people to out their own faces as queer to the government and to their entire cities, in public and searchable by location.

regarding that bridge between the little girl I once was and the middle-aged punk I am today, between those worlds of pop culture and our apocalyptic reality, between the little me who watched glassy-eyed as the Knights of the Zodiac, face covered in blood, stood up again to face a cruel enemy impossibly stronger, for justice, heedless of death—and the big me in a train station in 2023 who, face covered in blood, stood up again to face a cruel enemy impossibly stronger, for justice, heedless of death:

the other day I was reading some stuff by Palestinians and there was this woman who said something like, "we all grew up admiring our TV heroes who save the world from evil, and now as adults we find that evil isn't a supernatural force, it's the greedy leaders of the world, and it's our turn to be like our childhood heroes."

somehow it's always a bit of a shock to me, to be reminded that pop culture is universal—even though I myself am a Thirdworlder and born poor, so I should know better—but the idea of Rojava fighters smuggling USB drives with the latest Game of Thrones episode or Palestinian kids nerding over Street Fighter still smashes some internalised stereotypes I carry.

I remember, even as a kid, outgrowing the simplistic caricatures of evil, those boring, world-conquering, world-destroying villains; discovering the nuanced, sympathetic villains like in Miyazaki cartoons, and then adult literature, which isn't about villains at all. and then, during my time at Google, watching my bosses and learning that real-life villains are every bit as cartoonish and boring as in the child stories, after all. greed for greed's sake. world-conquering. world-destroying. the only point where the children series were wrong is that the villains have no single leader, they're a collective, a class, a cancerous ideology; and the heroes, too, must fight as collective, no single individual will ever be able to save the planet.

still, 35 years later I can attest that Kamen Rider was right all along,

傷つくことを恐れたら
地球は悪の手に沈む
if you are afraid of being hurt
Earth will fall into evil hands

やさしさよりも激しさが
大事な時があるものさ
there are times when kindness
won't cut it, but only violence

君よ怒りをイナズマに
変えて宇宙にとき放て
oh, make of your rage lightning
and release it into the cosmos...

imagine films written a few centuries in the future about the 20–21st century, with the same level of historical resolution we use for "medieval" settings. there will probably be a Sex Pistols punk, a flapper, a stereotypical Soviet communist and a flower-power hippie teaming up in an antifa squad, quipping in beatnik slang and Gen Z lingo as they fight the Nazi MAGA Stormtroopers (who look like Star Wars stormtroopers) in 1945 Ukraine

some of my compost worms and some isopods are living in my balcony somehow 🤷‍♀️

the redworms (E. fetida) are quite adept at moving from pot to pot, even climbing shelves. since they're a native species I wonder if it's ok to bring some to the nearby woods when my box fills, it's still winter and they're already multiplying a lot
