: what's your video game, anime or manga hot take? Like an actually scorching hot take that you actually believe and would cause controversy.

*As an example of the kinds of takes i mean, on the radio they did sports hot takes and 3 that came up were:

  • any NBA player over 6'7" could become a professional soccer goalie with only a month of training
  • an educated sports fan could do about as well as any professional GM at drafting 1st round picks over a 10 year span just by following general scouting rankings
  • a decently fit person could rush for 1 yard in the NFL with a good enough O line
elkaki,

@ShittyKopper @ami_angelwings

Kind of depends on what you define as having a "meta" right?

Because if it's just a best strategy agreed by the playerbase, you end up including speedrun strategies, the fact there are existing best builds (think of dark souls), or in sandbox games you end up with certain designs that are just better like in factorio

I can think lots of examples that constitute "metas" that encompass virtually any game

elkaki,

@pixel @ShittyKopper @ami_angelwings

He is clearly not talking plainly about a meta here, as his issue is with the "forced" aspect of it all.

The best example in the world is league of legends, if you dare play a champion in a role that it doesn't belong, you will get flamed to the point some guy will get his account restricted for a week.

Competitive team games tend to get that rage out of gamers as they see you "sabotaging" their rank gains. Having fun in competitive is irrelevant for them

It still takes a while before Meta(P92) joins the Fediverse and the recent times we have read a lot of things from both sides

Polls are not super reliable but maybe it will give a better overall picture of what you, the people using these platforms want

The result will not be the definite outcome for us but I do take it into heavy consider because I love you all very much!

"Would YOU want to federate with Meta's new platform?"

elkaki,

@ivy @stux @obviousdwest

What I don't understand is why would they need to set up a server to do this? You don't even need an account to scrape the content so what information do admins from instances I send messages to get that is unavailable to the general public?

elkaki,

@ivy @stux @obviousdwest

Interesting argument!
I don't know that much about GDPR as I'm not european, so my takes might be a completely wrong analysis of the situation, with that said:

I still don't think this is the purpose they are doing it, especially since I don't see how it would make any difference legally for them to hold the data this way since the main thing about GDPR is that, for identifiable personal information, user consent and informing them is key.

elkaki,

@ivy @stux @obviousdwest

i remember that data scraping is legal as long as you avoid personal information (you could for example, scrape amazon to generate lists of item prices)

It is only personal info where gdpr kicks in and meta would need consent.

As I said, might be misremembering.

update:

  • The https://kbin.social server is now federating with the Fediverse. You can follow/interact with kbin.social magazines & users from other Kbin servers, Mastodon & rest of the Fediverse. For example the TIL magazine is at @TodayILearned, the lead dev of Kbin is at @ernest

  • There's a new Kbin server at https://readit.buzz which is run by the same people as the Universodon.com Mastodon server. It's open for signups, just click "log in" and then "register".

elkaki,

@feditips @ernest

I have a few questions in case anyone could answer, how does the federation work? If I go there through mastodon am I limited to commenting or can I upvote/downvote?

Lastly: how can I follow the instance or specific magazines?
In case it's relevant, I'm using fedilab so it allows me to follow multiple timelines, but I've been trying to follow https://kbin.social/m/PCGaming
And I just don't understand how to do it

elkaki,

@feditips @ernest

I forgot, one more thing, about magazines

When you make an account on a magazine (I suppose that's how it works since they are instances), will all your posts appear on that magazine timeline? Or do you have to consciously send it there? And are you completely restricted to that magazine's rules even if you send messages to other instances?

I know it's a lot of questions, feel free to answer only one (or zero 😅) this is just everything I don't get for now

elkaki,

@caos @feditips @ernest

Thanks for answering, on regards to the second part, am I following the magazine as if it were an account?

Also it doesn't show any posts, although that might be a temporary problem or because of the app, I will try to see it through the web later.

elkaki,

@fynhv @feditips @ernest

Thanks for taking the time 👍

One thing, similar to what I said here https://mastodon.online/@elkaki/110548671107228739
Are you following the magazine as if it were a user instead of an instance? Wouldn't that completely fill your timeline since there is no algorithm and you would be shown all the posts?
