Little bit concerned that Squiggles is wandering around the Serengeti alone, dressed as one of nature's most hapless and tasty flightless prey animals.

@mishellbaker mine is still in the forest. feel free to take her adventuring with you. i'm not sure what nonsense Pan is wearing now but i can find her most adventuresome steam punk kind of gear

@mishellbaker i take you and Squiggles with me every day :) you can take any of your friends. well, i guess. i only have you two :) Pan has her steampunk goggles on her head, her glasses on her eyes to see and a yellow watering can cause it's magic and makes water come out of nowhere

i used my day's energy for feeling happy instead of getting anything done. now that i've run out and am crashing i'm feeling bad about the latter part of that.
if there is a next life please let this be different.

#TuneTuesday is all about #MyPreciousMusic this week - the physical copies of our favourite music. I'm going with this homemade compilation that was my introduction to the music of Chris Knox, which was sent to me by someone I met on Usenet back when I was in university. While I don't listen to the actual tape anymore, and I own all the albums that these songs come from, I do have this set up as a playlist and listen to it from time to time.

The track listing of a homemade compilation on a cassette insert.

@sheepnik Was able to get two of my favourite opera productions on DVD. I listen to Il Trovatore more than watch it because the plot is a toxic mess but the music is one glorious duet after aria after trio after chorus after another with hardly any filler and these singers & conductor are magnificent with it.
The Barber staging is witty and full of small additional details, music is superb fireworks, and Rossina & Figaro are played as BFFs in shenanigans.

@sheepnik hope so too. tomorrow is more likely though. good luck with yours :)

it's very kind of them to make convenient handles in the packaging. can the boys have yours too? they have plans.

emmaaum,
@emmaaum@zirk.us avatar

@sheepnik i think it involves hitting each other with them until someone's laughing too hard to continue and begs for mercy. this will damage the cardboard more than themselves which is why they would like spares.
but this is all hypothetical until mine arrive and they see them in person at which time they might have different plans. they're unlikely to make satisfactory paintbrushes though so that's probably out.

There was a brief conversation about booping the hogs yesterday, but I felt it was a bit of a cheat to boop a nose you'd drawn yourself.

I should have left it there, but when I was sorting files I thought "maybe I could make it more difficult somehow, and therefore not a cheat".

So anyway, have a blindfolded double-boop because for a split-second that made sense to me, and that's all it needs sometimes.

emmaaum,
@emmaaum@zirk.us avatar

@eclectech how does this not make sense?

i mean look at it. the drawn noses are extensions of Friend's drawn self so this is a metaphysical commentary on the nature of existence and interconnection.

The propaganda account whose expert definition of antisemitism would exclude the, checks notes, Nazis has followed me with the account they're using to dodge restriction.
I didn't report that first account but it's good to know an admin somewhere recognised their problematic behaviours.

It's a clear sign of the antisemitism at the United Nations that they didn't blast this change out to every major news agency in the world.

"According to data published May 6, of the 34,735 people who have died in Gaza, more than 9,500 were women and more than 14,500 were children. Two days later, the United Nations reduced those figures to 4,959 women and 7,797 children killed while maintaining that the overall number of more than 35,000 deaths in Gaza remains unchanged."

emmaaum,
@emmaaum@zirk.us avatar

@michael_martinez Another clue that the old numbers were wrong is that they add up to only 10k men dead, less than IDF's number of militants it has killed. Which of course doesn't include those killed by Hamas, PIJ rocket misfires etc.
(And if anyone passing by wants to come at me saying you don't trust IDF's numbers, ask yourself why you trust Hamas')
These proportions are at least plausible. The new blood libel narrative has been established though. Well done UN.

I’ve been watching so many LGBTQ films that I’ve forgotten straight romantic relationships exist as central backbones of movies. It’s quite jarring.

(I’m watching one now, though it’s definitely going to get weird soon).

emmaaum,
@emmaaum@zirk.us avatar

@sheepchase That happened to me last year. If nothing else, I was really glad to have unconscious heteronormative presumptions about who will pair with whom kicked to the curb.
I'm really sensitive to romanticised sexism in any pairing now. It especially upsets me in BL; you are writing boys, you don't need to saddle them with this rubbish.
Equality for all!!! Marriage equality and equality in relationships.

considers getting off soapbox. eff that 😉

#Cdrama and #Kdrama Fans!

I need more recs for happy, found family, make-you-smile-and-warm-your-heart type of dramas. I don't mind murder and chaos as long as my people have a happy ending. Recent likes have been #BlossomsInAdversity, #StoryOfKunningPalace, I also liked #JoyOfLife & #MeetYourself.

@LianaBrooks Moonlight Chicken that Jill recced is a masterpiece of emotion. Love it so much.

Also Stay. A vibrant young Thai woman goes to Japan to live/work on a farm and learn about local food. The family she stays with are the best. The emotions aren't big and dramatic, they're just very real.

Available thanks to a fan subber. I can send you the link.

@hanktank61 So many I don't know where to start :) What are you in the mood for?

Cinematography in Moonlight Chicken is beautiful, but it's not glossy. It's lanterns in Chinatown at midnight, with sweat stains on a shirt.

If you like supernatural, some of us are re/watching Enigma, 4 eps and well-crafted https://mydramalist.com/743905-enigma

Stay, that I suggested to Liana, 4 eps.

@LianaBrooks 🙂 If you have any problems navigating Thai PBS or their vipa streaming service, feel free to ask. I've gotten pretty good at bashing my way around it without being able to read Thai.
There are English subtitles but the button is labeled in Thai on some series. If you run into that, try the middle of the options.

emmaaum,
@emmaaum@zirk.us avatar

@LianaBrooks I'm trying to think of something Thai that meets all of those criteria. The against all odds ones either aren't clear victories or have MC death. Love and support, everything I rec will have that, but for the rest all I can think of just now is Enigma, which I suggested to Hank above.
Smaller, personal victories though, like young people figuring themselves out, I have lots of those.

@LianaBrooks * May Who? wonderfully quirky intelligently goofy youth movie (try bilibili).

  • Bad Buddy, have you seen it?
  • Bokura no Shokutaku (Our Dining Table), quiet, gentle, with vibrancy from the World's Cutest Kid & Most Adorable Wingman

Have a look through my list if you want and if any intrigue you, feel free to ask how they meet/don't meet your interests.

Watch the inky hawks circle and circle over blades of grass waving and fluttering in the field

Watch the squirrel flick its tail, clasping tiny fingers around a newfound acorn

Watch the flies zig and zag like magical green jewels

Okay so, final thoughts about Thai horror drama Enigma?

It was great. I'm impressed with how much it managed to tell in the short amount of time the show had.

Visually stunning, as I said before.

The tension buildup, and overall pacing felt good.

And also, it's just a cool story and universe.

I look forward to returning to it for season 2.
