Heading out from the campsite along the lake we ran into a puget sound energy fisheries team stocking the lake by basically t-shirt cannoning sockeye salmon fry into the water. It was a very neat encounter.

Mastodon and Threads both completely missing trending story of the in Taiwan. Twitter (RIP) has Tsunami as top trending right now so it is still close. Bsky actually sort of does the worst in that there is no trending section and the best in the sense that at least there is a public bot that shows trending topics and has the earthquake, not just tsunami, as the hot topics https://bsky.app/profile/nowbreezing.ntw.app

@Tim_Eagon me too CNBC already has a full story up, so it's on mainstream outlets as well. The trending system on mastodon is just not able to surface these things quickly. Threads could do it easily but they are weirdly allergic to actual news.

@cpep it does for me as well, but only if I know that there was an earthquake. I'm looking at the trending topics in the UI (that screenshot) that would ideally be showing this significant event in close to real time.

As a deep-in-my-dna-nightowl, I wish more apps would do what Streaks App (by @qzervaas ) does and let me choose when a new days starts.

I have a bunch of workarounds for Apple Reminders to generate my completed tasks log for the day when I finish at 1 or 2 am, just so it grabs everything from my "day" (2am to 2am roughly).

I've taught code + tech to middle school girls but the times I'd bring my in & get all the girls on the air were some of the MOST fun school events I've run.

may seem like a throwback hobby but it's as vibrant as ever. Yet there is still a problem with sexism, misogyny, and ham radio often feeling like an old boys club.

@joshuaiz ha! YES. I have been experiencing some other issue on macos around my keyboard input hanging and was wondering if it was related to that somehow but haven't sat down to fix either one. I'm constantly having problems selecting in illustrator lately.

DO YOU SUFFER FROM SCROLL TRANCE?

You know it: 3 minutes of scrolling turned into an hour & you feel like you just ate the full bag of chips without thinking.

I have tested ALL the apps folks. From iOS ScreenTime to $100-a-year apps (don't waste your money).

I've found THE app that works for me. And my kids.

FWIW I've confirmed to the best of my ability that it's an actual human behind this app and not a soulless mega corp or some heartless private equity firm. Just a guy trying to make a good app.

And the reason it works for me so well is two reasons:

  1. It interrupts but doesn't flat out block. Sometimes I legitimately need to get to an app. But the interruption on opening an app is enough to stop me from immediately defaulting to it as a tap.

  2. It starts in the interrupted state. This is key.

Some personal news… after many months, years of use? I have decided to buy Tot for iOS by @Iconfactory. I love the app on my Mac and have often missed it on my iPhone. Since using it more I thought it warranted a purchase and it’s very very good. 😊
