What's the best way to watch a television series?

Alonealastalovedalongthe, to fediverse
@Alonealastalovedalongthe@toot.cafe avatar

Is the fact that account migration is still awkward with more of a feature or a bug?

Is it a difficult software issue to solve because of fundamental choices about how to structure the activitypub protocol and if so where those choices made for a reason or just a result of volunteers being imperfect?

evan,
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

@Alonealastalovedalongthe the main thing is that we spread the URLs of your posts to all of your followers. We don't have an easy way to send updates.

The reason we designed it this way was to use the power of the web.

We can do better, and I think we will in the future.

evan,
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

@Alonealastalovedalongthe That said, we also need to address why people need to move so much. We need a more stable basis for instance management.

One person burning out or running out of money shouldn't send thousands of people searching for a new home in the fediverse.

At cosocial.ca we have a cooperative running the instance, meaning we have a bunch of people willing to put in the time, and a stable source of income.

Which makes a better liberal democracy?

If you have some cool dunks on liberal democracy, please add them in the comments!

evan,

@nlovsund that feels like a stretch on the term "liberal democracy" but I can see it.

Interesting responses!

So worried about the woke mind virus they aren't even aware of the pro-ant virus spreading like wildfire.

@futurebird I only recently learned the term "myrmecosphere" in George Monbiot's book "Regenesis" and I think the concept may have turned me .

@DoctorsWithoutBorders I'm so glad to see you here!

I am so deeply frustrated with the current Fediverse trend to /tightly/ bundle backend servers (Mastodon, Akkoma, Calckey, etc) with front-end client UI. I want to use the Calckey client to read my (currently Mastodon-based) social.coop account feeds! I want to try out Akkoma's client without switching accounts!
I know /some/ of the reasons for this (non-standard C2S APIs). But I deeply wish projects would just create standalone reusable client UI, instead.

evan, (edited )
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

@brunogirin @dmitri mostly because Mastodon doesn't.

Also, I think the paradigm of standard APIs is confusing. Most commercial SaaS services have very distinct APIs with very different models and uses. So people think the same thing should apply with open networks.

evan,
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

@dmitri we have a C2S standard. It'd be great to see it well-implemented.

@evan what kinds of stats are collected on the server? Can you give us an idea? What's happening with the co-op idea? Thanks!

evan,
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

@vid I'm going to post a blog update. Are you asking about server stats like memory and CPU? Number of members? Coop is live and incorporated.

Do you post here for work?

evan,

Interesting results! I'm qualified no. I haven't set up our Mastodon server yet for OEF. But my work on ActivityPub and social web standards is a big part of what I do here.

evan,
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

Also, I find it strange that so many people who are on professionally-oriented instances don't feel like they're doing work here.

evan,
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

@brion I didn't specify that it was work for your employer.

evan,

@kaybee335 no, that's fair!

@penryu no, I meant, why Dr. Who over Trek or Wars?

evan,
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

@DXS nice.

evan,
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

@penryu yes! That sounds fair.
