effective in 24 hours-ish, i will be disappearing from public social media. i'm fine, don't worry.

in 2019, i decided i wanted to live an alternative lifestyle, moving my entire social bubble online. this has made many of my brain cells very angry, and has been widely regarded as a bad move. in 2021, i had a turning point, realizing that in-person social needs can't be replaced. since then, i've been trying to balance my presense online with the offline, but over the years they've become so convoluted that they've meshed together, almost entirely.

as described in my bio, this account has mostly been a thought journal that i put up publicly, and people seem to like it. however, i've always been a pretty open book, and this is often to my detriment. it's hard for me to keep track of details i reveal about myself, and that's pretty bad for the safety of me and my loved ones. so, i'm just gonna be keeping my thoughts to myself from now on.

i also hate getting wrapped up in drama and public arguments and discourse, there's always some sort of pull to make some sort of comment on it, say where you stand, etc. there's also a lot of fomo if i can't get through my tl, so much that it's wasting my life and adding a ton of stress. this isn't unique to fedi at all—it's a design flaw of microblogging as a concept. and it can't be healthy.

i'll still be on private messengers, if we're oomfs feel free to hmu and we can still keep up there. i might post here occasionally, but that'll be a rare occasion. but it's time for me to reprioritize my social circle, prune some branches, and touch some more grass without a phone in my offhand.

Here’s a table of which Fediverse servers are federating or de-federating Threads.

Of the top 10 most active servers it lists, eight of them are federating, one is offering limited federation (infosec.exchange), and one is de-federating Threads (mas.to).

Of course, there’s some notable large servers missing from this list. For example, is misskey.io federating with Threads?

@mae yeah so like in 2019 they tried to become a pc game distribution site and you could buy games or play a selection with nitro. same time that they upped the price for nitro and introduced classic. people who already had it got the early supporter badge and got full nitro for the price of classic for the next year.

game idea: a competitive video game server is made, but there is no official client developed. programmers play against eachother by making their own and are allowed to utilize any and all information received from the server, and automate actions with as many scripts as they like.
