Mit fairmeeting wäre kein solcher #leak möglich - denn da gibt es die Option der vollen Ende-zu-Ende Verschlüsselung und Passwortschutz. Telefoneinwahl haben wir 2023 deaktiviert, genau aus dem Grund dass unerwünschte Gäste sich verstecken könnten. Im Vergleich zu Jitsi und #Webex ist fairmeeting.net DSGVO konform, da in der #EU gehosted und von einem EU Unternehmen betrieben. Wann dürfen wir an der nächsten Ausschreibung der #Bundeswehr teilnehmen @bmi ? #taurus

Analysing #PeerTube traffic. Meanwhile we get a traffic warning from our hoster already in the afternoon, that we had shipped 2TB. The traffic on our instance is mainly caused by federated videos that we offer to other instances. We offer 100 GB extra disc space for that. So peer to peer not only works well between browsers, but also between servers. In fact, this is the distributed CDN for the #fediverse !

Wir haben uns mit fairmeeting nochmal heftig ins Zeug gelegt. Unser beliebter Videokonferenzdienst auf Basis Jitsi wurde in unseren Kubernetes Cluster migriert und ist damit nun beliebig skalier- und einfacher wartbar. Im Vergleich zu meet.jit.si hosten wir in der EU DSGVO konform und gibt es weiterhin keinen Anmeldezwang. Auch die Probleme mit dem Firefox Browser seit Version 117 sollten nun gelöst sein. #PeerTube instances can be configured to help each other serving popular videos. We've now increased the size of "foreign" videos from 10GB to 300GB on https://fair.tube. Interestingly, that we still have more incoming than outgoing traffic on that machine, caused by shuffling high volume candidates. Conclusion: There are many PeerTube instances, who offer taking off load from each other. Together with the client side peering of video traffic, the PeerTube network is a very powerful CDN!

We all know the "free software" vs. the corporate "open source" split. But if the last years showed something it is that only using "freedom" as a fundamental principle isn't doing enough, it's just too limited.

If we want our communities to build software for a "common good" we might need to start thinking about other fundamental values and reframe "FLOSS" into something more goal oriented.

We need to integrate ideas of inclusion and environmentalism, about harm reduction and overcoming internalized colonialism that have shaped so many projects and communities (including to a degree the fediverse).

"Freedom" always sounds good and useful but it's just not enough, it's not tangible enough, to open for being captured by right wing narratives.

I'm test driving #kbin for public groups.

Like #Friendica, /kbin can ban trolls from participating in groups.

Unlike Friendica, you can remove posts local to where the group is hosted.

Unfortunately, the offending comments still appears in user timelines because other Fediverse servers do not delete after comments are removed locally.

Another alternative could be #Calckey which supports groups through "Channels". However these do NOT federate.
