Inside a modern day cheap Ku-band LNB.
Not much where to reduce costs in these at this point.
Absolute bare minimum of parts.

Apparently it is possible to directly receive 2.4GHz FM video on this analog CRT TV.
2.4GHz TX on 2466MHz
TV on somewhere ch42 - ch44 UHF.
Mixing with 5th LO harmonic and slope detecting the video?

Hello lazy web, a friend of mine fudged the NVRAM battery replacement in his Tektronix TDS644B.
One of those Dallas jobbies where you get to really tear into them to pry out the existing batteries.

So now the calibration is gone and the instrument is unhappy.
So what next? Finding some random calibration file and use that and hope for the best?
Maybe some of you know more.

Sure, there is an Allwinner R16, but it is BGA and outside of a single USB (based on the common mode balun and balanced traces) no real easy to use interfaces to the world.

Sure there is also eMMC, DRAM and it's AXP223 PMIC.
But who designs SBC's around salvaged and reballed SoC's?

LB: yeah, please don't use hashtags in replies to my posts, except for obviously ok cases where I'm explicitly asking for hashtag suggestions or similar. it's a distraction and tends to invite a lot of tedious replies.

(and please don't try to be funny by replying to this with hashtags; I've had way too many annoying replies in the past few days and I will just block you for it)

is there a "gold standard" LDO for extremely high PSRR at around 50mA load?

I know the metrology folks have some voltage references with obscenely high PSRR, but they tend to be very limited in current.

ftg,
@ftg@mastodon.radio avatar

@gsuberland
My go-to is LP5907, but there are likely much better parts out there.
So I'm also interested in hearing what other folks prefer.

But often 7812 -> 7808 -> 7805 -> 1117-3.3, not something actually good.

one annoyance with youtube is that it lies to you about the quality setting when running in auto quality mode.

so many times I'll be like "this looks like potato" even though it says I'm watching at 1440p or 2160p, but if I actually click on that quality level manually it re-buffers and the visual quality goes way up.

ftg,
@ftg@mastodon.radio avatar

@gsuberland
Yep.
Yet another thing where the platform just straight up lies to you.

Yesterday's toots about serial/parallel hybrid cars vs. trains are really pushing me to make a video about hybrid car tech.

Here's the thing lots of people don't seem to know: the most efficient hybrid powertrains also do the trick of keeping the engine at optimum RPM/efficiency but the engine can still contribute directly to the spinning of the wheels

It's the technique that makes diesel-electric efficient but even more so because it largely skips conversion losses.

In this video, we conclude that the Slow-Mo Guys don't understand how slow and inconsistent standard blasting caps are.

The whole idea of the experiment is built around precision timing of the detonation which is literally the reason EBWs and slapper detonators exist.

While they never showed the detonator up close, the fact that they had problems with the trigger circuit being too slow is a pretty clear indication to me that they're just using a normal resistive bridgewire type cap.

The Teledyne-Risi RP-80 is specced at 2.65 us function time [1]. In that time, a 1200FPS 9mm bullet would travel just under 1mm. And the variation in the function time is even less, so a properly configured EBW setup should have allowed the position of the bullet at the time of detonation to be controlled with sub-millimeter accuracy.

I think Smarter Every Day's "Firing two bullets and making them hit each other in the air" video is a good exception to that rule.

And then you hear that Destin used to work as a test engineer in the defence industry. 😅

My timeline is full of people - notably @rikefranke & @JoCzechowska - battling with delayed international trains today

The problem is this: if Thalys or DB offer a totally lousy service, WHAT IS THE CONSEQUENCE?

Pretty much none

It’s not that a better operator can step in. There’s no political consequence for either firm (DB is 100% state owned, Eurostar-Thalys >80%). Even if today’s annoyed passengers drive next time, the service will still be full - as capacity is low

ftg,
@ftg@mastodon.radio avatar

@jon @rikefranke @JoCzechowska
Here sometimes fly instead, as it is cheaper, has less hassle and is faster.
Or just drive.
