So, apparently I'm going to an old friend's wedding this fall? This is my first formal event since transition....where does one get a formal dress? ๐Ÿ˜…

I do have a semi-formal lilac dress, but like...I'd like to get fancy and indulge the pretty girl side of myself. ๐Ÿ˜

Any advice shopping for that kind of thing because I am utterly clueless?

So, here's some meandering thoughts about social psychology from my time away touching grass.

Us here in the trans community on the fedi need to be aware of a structural problem that's affecting how we interact with each other: we're a somewhat closed social system and that puts us all at risk of getting toxic with each other.

I don't mean closed as in we don't let people in, but rather that our social space on here is highly interconnected, centers around one or two big clusters, and we depend highly upon each other for social needs, social status, and even, in some cases, material needs and support. Most of our friends on here are interconnected with each other, and there's not really another venue that offers us the same kinds of community elsewhere.

So why does this matter?

@Hannah @JoscelynTransient I also kind of gave up and felt like that. But then I found another instance where I found more of a community than all the other ones Iโ€™ve been on. (Not this one Iโ€™m posting from.) Itโ€™s made such a huge difference in how I feel being on here. Sure, I still donโ€™t feel like one of the popular girls, but at least I feel like Iโ€™ve found people who like me and want me around. Which I think is a thousand times more important than popularity.

I think thatโ€™s something thatโ€™s not talked about enough when people explain fedi. Sure, an account anywhere can talk to anywhere else. Thatโ€™s not technically wrong. BUT! If you donโ€™t land on an instance with other people you mesh with then youโ€™re not going to have a good time. Youโ€™re going to struggle and most likely just leave. Finding the right instance takes a lot more work than just signing up to Twitter or whatever and posting into the void. Itโ€™s harder than even just looking for an instance you think will work. Itโ€™s trial and error. Itโ€™s luck! Hoping the right people see you and interact with you. Hoping the locals are friendly and not standoffish.

Anyways, Iโ€™m starting to babbleโ€ฆ

My partner just finished making themselves a bag for their tarot deck. It came out so well that theyโ€™d like to make some more for others. Asking price would be $10 including shipping within the US. (Weโ€™d have to look up prices for outside the US but are willing to ship internationally.) The measurements on the bag are 5.5 in x 8.5 in. In the photos you can see their Dreaming Cat Tarot which is 2.5 in x 4.5 in but I was able to fit my Murder of Crows Tarot in its box which is 3.5 in x 5 in x 2.2 in thick. Itโ€™s a double lined bag with a drawstring closure. Weโ€™ve got lots of fabric in different colors so you get to choose your inner and outer colors. They made it for their tarot but you can use it for other things, too. Crystals, runes, dice, you name it! All materials are upcycled leftover craft supplies that weโ€™re trying to use up. DM me for orders and color samples.
