Received today my SUNLU S4 filadryer (Kickstarter project). A little bit noisy. However, it comes with much better mechanics for the filament spools. More screws (less glued) than the old models. That's good.

Currently, I test the humidity control mode. That means the dryer tries to hold the humidity below 30%.

@3dprinting

geekandi,

@beandev @3dprinting I have been pondering this.

I have 4 S1s and a singular S2 and they get regular usage though sometimes I have a queue of filaments to drop in and dry. Able to do 4 concurrently sounds sweet.

geekandi,

@ivory Fun bug: if you follow a hashtag it will still show you muted accounts

geekandi,

@ivory hashtag tab, muted in Ivory - ended up just blocking the account. It's one of those bots that posts a metric fuckton of times per day

When using search it was muted as expected but happened to still show up when using the hashtag tab

geekandi, to random

Hey @ivory

The idea of smart lists seems pretty cool - can you add this type of thing?

I'd love a smart list that I can use a hashtag for to make my life simpler when I am looking at a topic of interest.

For years now, I’ve rarely gotten SMS spam. But about two weeks ago I started getting 5-10 spam SMS texts per day, every day. They’re all crap like this, most of from those 5-digit short code numbers. Did I just stumble onto some sort of list, or is this happening to others suddenly too?

geekandi,

@gruber It's nasty out there lately :(

  • geekandi,

    @phranck

    cause it is fun or are you building for something that isn't listed on the release page?

    I have built SuperSlicer for M1 multiple times because the author really seems to hate macOS (his commentary is quite negative, repeatedly)

    geekandi,

    @phranck

    Been there and done that!

    I wish I could enjoy the OrcaSlicer interface but I don’t. I keep trying every few weeks and then I get all flustered. It is the VI to my Emacs in terms of use. ie; rather use PrusaSlicer/SuperSlicer over OrcaSlicer

    Probably me being a neckbeard or some shit

    geekandi,

    @phranck

    I started with Cura and lasted about a week then into PS.

    It ain't perfect but I can work around in it.

    OrcaSlicer .. has everything hidden away via multiple levels of shit, like Cura, and that makes a whine

    Refurb base M1 Studio is $1529. I think at a $500 differential it’s worth getting it over the M2, unless you have a heavy GPU workload, need WiFi6 or HDMI 2.1.

    geekandi,

    @mikestanley @paul

    This is how I got my Studio last year and I would be tempted to upgrade if the trade-in value wasn't so awful ($1,350) and, anyway, I do not NEED the upgrade so get off my shoulder, Ghost of Steve Jobs!

    geekandi,

    @paul @mikestanley

    haha, as if it was only $1,400 when I got in July 2022

    Morning folks!

    Haven't been doing much here in the land of Mastodon cause I've been busy.

    Hope anyone following this has had a great start of their summer, and the projects that come along with such!

    geekandi,

    @Stark9837

    Why thanks for thinking of me!

    It's been a very weird period the past couple of weeks and I'm pondering what I wanna do for the future, work wise.

    geekandi,

    @Stark9837 @3dprinting

    Yep, doing okay, just a lot of noodling in my own head

    Drobo's been dead for years. The concept was always good but the implementation never lived up to it. That being said their hardware was always slick looking, would be cool if they released a JBOD firmware for those devices.

    My latest model has just been posted to .

    I recently installed a C310 webcam in my printer enclosure, but wanted to be able to move it.

    The problem was that with tall prints, the prints went out of frame and my AI detection was not able to monitor the last half. With smaller prints, the part was covered by the hotend and I wasn't able to see it.

    So I made this. I took the Universal Camera Mount by ps915 and the Honeycomb Storage wall by RostaP and made this parametric design. Hope you enjoy!

    geeks. Zach Freedman (VoidStar Studios) did a video testing ... a boatload of filaments (in 2021). I have learned more in the 1st 12 minutes of this video about my filament options and what I need to be aware of than I have in years of occasionally dabbling and reading. Definitely watch if you're an occasional printer like me.

    https://youtu.be/vSwumoSlZTo

    geekandi,

    @masukomi @severedaffect

    Was a fun video. He has another if memory serves!

    geekandi,

    @masukomi @severedaffect

    And the parts others have created are super neat including drawer sets, wall mount, and new ways to abuse magnets

    geekandi, to random

    I lost my way in organization and keeping things neat.

    Let this be a lesson to you!

    That quartz slab has been used to build 6 printers and rebuild a couple of friends machines as well. a 350mm V2.4 fits on it but as you can see it barely holds the pocket-rocket.

    Horrible mess. I am ashamed. So I'm posting it so you can avoid such!

    @3dprinting

    geekandi,

    @Stark9837 @3dprinting

    Sweet!

    I have magnitudes more parts and gridfinity would never work for me. Buddy of mine loves them though

    causes hoarding damnit!

    geekandi,

    @Siff @3dprinting

    haha, yeah, I really fell behind on things and now I'm paying for it with time.

    But when it's done I can then get back into actually building things again

    @straithe had a post earlier today regarding wet filament. So, I decided to share my experience with wet filament the last few days.

    I also added some post-printing work you can do and ascetone smoothing if you are using ABS. Only ABS can be used with ascetone smoothing.

    So, I have this current setup. I originally printed it in white just as a test print. I also think it was at 0.28mm or 0.3mm layer heights with a 0.6mm nozzle, really only intended as a twst print to see how it fits my printer.

    But I finally replaced it now, because I honestly hated the white every time I looked at my printer and it also messed with my webcam, due to over-exposure caused by the white reflecting my lights in my enclosure.

    I actually also broke it. The attachment that stops bowden tubes from messing with load cell ABL and the part cooling duct.

    So, I decided to update it.

    @3dprinting

    Image of the white part removed from the printer showing the degradjng color, broken parts and just a different angle

    Sunlu can be had for US$40 and work as advertised.

    The newer one can be had for US$60 and has a lot more configurability but I find it harder to print from.

    @Stark9837@techhub.social avatar

    Youtube is full of creators recommendeding to switch to 0.6mm nozzles because of the improvements due to Aracne, but I just can't do it.

    My details are just too fine that it isn't possible to print with 0.6mm, and most of my own designs are made for 0.4mm nozzles.

    But I saw it in the store the other day and just went to get one now. A 0.5mm nozzle!

    I like it because it actually allows for rounder numbers and perimeter thickness than 0.4mm because it divides evenly.

    I am printing with it now, and my first layer is looking great, I will post an update and what I think once it is done.

    Any reason to not scrub and recycle all my <= 2TB 3.5" SATA spinners? I generally keep old hardware forever but just can't imagine me ever using any of those again.
