trustworthy

They are recommended on privacy guides: www.privacyguides.org/en/search-engines/#brave-se…I generally trust privacy guides, although I don’t use Brave Search.

CEO

Their CEO is anti-vax and homophobic. Brave Browser (not search) has had some controversy around including crypto, replacing ads with their own, and having had inserted affiliate links into the URL bar in the past.

censor stuff

Hard to say, the job of a search engine is to show you what you want to find.

data collection

There is telemetry that can be turned off.

That is what I do, however it is very tedious when you want to listen to full albums, and add info to the file such as the album art and artist. Services like Spotify also sync your Library and playlist automatically across devices.

“Socialism” in the form of government regulations and healthcare is popular. Not so much Marxism or proleterian revolution

As someone else in the thread mentioned, it is depersonalizing. The word female is used mainly in medical, scientific, or legal contexts. It can sound awkward or jarring when used outside of that, even when technically correct. The word woman could be used instead. Did the person in the OP deserve a permanent ban for it? Probably not

Works fine on desktop here, on mobile I just use Newpipe

If the US were truly democratic, the “Republican” fascist party would be a fringe minority.

They didn’t perform as well as expected at the federal level in 2022, and have only become more extreme since then.

Hopefully soon the old fucks will wither away and die and the young ones will be shoved away in prison where they belong.

Am I the only person who thinks Mozilla needs a rework? (rant)

So the other day I was testing a new browser called waterfox. What stuck me as odd was how a small company seemed to have made Firefox so much more usable everyone. I normally use librewolf for privacy and security reasons but waterfox actually temped me to switch. (I ended up not switching for privacy and security reasons)...

glacier,
@glacier@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It lists LibreWolf and IceCat which are FireFox forks.

@glacier@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I think arkenfox is better because you can get updates faster and automatically.

Eptsein pled guilty in 2005. There wasn’t much of a trial and YouTube was brand new, it did not have live streaming.

Maxwell was charged and convicted in federal court where cameras are not allowed.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on How She’s Changed - The New York Times (ghostarchive.org)

I want to read you two recent headlines from New York magazine. They were written within a week of each other. The first is “A.O.C. Is Just a Regular Old Democrat Now,” and that accuses you of compromising on your progressive ideals as you work within the party system. And then came the rebuttal, which was “The ‘A.O.C....

No one is above criticism. But AOC is just one member of Congress. She does her job and I believe represents her constituents well. What did you expect of her?

Max wants to push alerts on viewers when there is breaking news on CNN. (variety.com)

CNN Max is likely to evolve over time. Among the features the company will try out are ways of alerting Max viewers to breaking news while they are watching something else on the service, whether it be an HBO series, a Turner Classic Movies selection or an old episode of Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.”...

It really depends on your age, and where you are going to wear the clothes. There are plenty of low-key women’s clothes. T-shirts, sweatpants, shorts, sneakers, jackets. If you get something in a dark color it is unlikely that anyone will be able to tell that you are wearing a piece of women’s clothing. The trick is figuring out your size. Every brand is different, but I generally go one size up (Small to medium, for example) for upper body items and one size down (Small to extra Small, for example) for lower body items. Two sizes up for shoes (10 to 12, for example)

You are right, I had it mixed up. I meant to say two sizes up for shoes. I went from size 8 in men’s to 10 in women’s (US Size).

How to prevent Firefox on Android from refreshing when switching to Bitwarden for the password?

I’ve just switched from Brave to Firefox on Android and so far liking it. There’s one issue though. I use Bitwarden for my credentials & SwiftKey as keyboard. When I go to a website that asks for credentials, the Bitwarden button shows up above my keyboard to unlock my vault, as expected. I click it, unlock with fingerprint,...

glacier,
@glacier@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I always use the Bitwarden auto-fill option in my notification shade. You can enable it in the Bitwarden app settings. You can also change how long it takes for the vault to re-lock itself.

I wonder what Pence and Republicans think about the violent racism and misogyny that so many mass shooters seem to have in common.

Well, do you follow them? It could be that you searched for something related to Linux on Twitter at some point. In general, apps can’t see your activity in other apps. Still, Twitter does not respect their users’ privacy.

The article does explain what is being taught to students.

The Florida Department of Education has approved screening videos that deny the Earth’s changing climate to schoolchildren in the state, according to the Guardian.

The videos approved to be shown to children from kindergarten to fifth grade feature characters who question several sustainable actions, such as moving away from dirty energy sources, switching to renewable energy, and reducing reliance on plastics.

Now, videos featuring climate-denial talking points could be shown to children as young as five years old.

Most of the things they have available to purchase, you could research and do on your own. Offering the crypto stuff is also off putting, since crypto (except for perhaps Monero) is not really private.

glacier,

You could block them and the emails will be sent to your spam folder.

glacier,

It’s more about wanting to take a break from looking at a screen and watching shitty ads for so many hours per day.

I have my savings in a high yield savings account (FDIC insured) and a checking account at the same bank, so I can access the money pretty much instantly if needed. I don’t use Wealthfront specifically but I’ve heard good things about them. Once you earn more than $10 in interest you do have to pay taxes on it.
