Interesting article about the flood of corporate acquisitions of veterinary practices which have increased prices and lowered fundamental pet care. And pet owners don't know the veterinary clinic has changed because the name stays the same. I've seen this as they push products and "diagnostic creep" on pet owners. The profit margins are huge.

Some first-half thoughts on the #Warriors:

1. Chris Paul immediately took on the pure point guard duties, letting a very relaxed Steph to shoot.

2. Wiggins has that Wiggins Bounce again. It was missing last year.

3. Kuminga seems to care again. None of that poor body language he displayed in last year's preseason.

4. Klay has thankfully eliminated the headband. He's looking good on defense.

5. No weird Frankenstein combinations from Mad Doctor Kerr. Very straightforward first team and second team.

6. GP2 is all over the place. Love him!

7. Yes, it's just preseason, but it's B-Ball.

8. Hate the Lakers and the Cowboys. What a weekend!

If you haven't done so already, check your phone to make sure you have EMERGENCY ALERTS turned on. This will allow you to get alerts for major weather events. They are loud, using the standard emergency broadcasting signal followed by a clear voice explaining what is happening. Better to be safe than sorry.

Thank you to the Pacific Whale Foundation for all the work they've been doing for #Maui. They've been using their maritime transportation to ferry in supplies for the #Lahaina survivors. No hesitation in jumping in despite employees and volunteers losing their homes in the #lahainafire. They also lost one of their boats to the fire.

Google Buzz used OStatus as part of its protocol stack.

OStatus later evolved into ActivityPub.

As for Google Buzz? Like most Google social media projects, it died -- later to be replaced by Google+.
