    I came out to my parents as a Trans woman and they told me I was the real bigot – because one time several years ago, in a Facebook comment replying to my own post, I told my step grandfather’s long lost grandchild, who is a cop, to get a different job. This was their primary reaction.

    This is what happens when I “log off and get in touch with the real world” so I won’t be doing that again.

    Ole, lo que sí me parece bien mañé es escoger el Movistar Arena (con su diseño de rollo de papel higiénico gigante) como lugar para unos grados... Esos lugares tan feos terminan sacando lo peor de la gente, como se vio hoy...

    Some Thoughts About Dealing With Trauma

    Trauma is not a Competition:

    This is not to say we shouldn't share our experiences with people who want them, and people we trust, but what I'm referring to here is when we speak a bit about our Trauma, and then someone pipes up with, "If you think that's bad listen to this..." then proceeds to dump their whole experience as a competition of who had the hardest life. NO ONE LIKES THIS!

    Trauma is not an Excuse:

    Trauma is trauma, we are all dealing with something this should bring us together instead of dividing us. If you are cognizant enough to see it as Trauma, then you are smart enough to know it is not an excuse for bad behavior. We often talk about Generational Trauma, recognizing this is how we stop it in its tracks.

    You Are Going To Screw Up:

    Sometimes we get frustrated and overwhelmed, and we fall back on old behaviors and reactions. The important thing here is what you do about it afterwards. Explain, but don't make excuses, and then sincerely apologize. It can definitely be embarrassing when someone sees the worst version of us, but don't try to ignore it to make it go away, deal with it head on.

    There is no Magic Bullet:

    Your Trauma isn't going away, you will deal with it in some aspect for the rest of your life. The lovely @janetlogan and I were having a conversation about grief, and she said, "Your grief doesn't get smaller, but you grow around it." I think this applies pretty well to Trauma also. We can grow, and make room for other things in our life. You are much more than the bad things that happened or were done to you.
