@grogpod woww Barony looks rad. Minecraft-ish look but looks WAY better than Minecraft (which I'm not into haha). This looks more like Heretic or something as a roguelike. And that is RAD 🤯 Wow, need to try this one
@jake4480 What do you think are the most interesting innovations for medieval dungeon crawlers recently? Lots of loot options? Level generation and strategizing around it? Something else?
Ever wondered what a roguelite game with a AAA budget and development studio would be like? Well this week our episode on Returnal is your answer!
Winner of 4 BAFTAs including 2022's game of the year award, it's a visual and storytelling powerhouse. But what mysteries does this alien planet hide and why is there a mysterious human farm house here?
This week we're putting the bullet into bullet hell with the hit SHMUP roguelike shooter Star of Providence!
Originally titled "Monolith", this NES-inspired modern retro shooter has it all: ghosts, mages, cybernetic constructs, giant spinning razor weapons, and of course: a talking cat.
A time travelling robot is never late. Nor it is early. It arrives precisely when it means to! This week is the second great roguelike by Subset Games: Into the Breach! A bug-punching, timeline jumping, city saving tactics puzzler sure to tickle that brain of yours.
We are taking listener requests for an upcoming episode as well! Reply below with suggestions!
@grogpod recently discovered the podcast and am popping back to listen to old episodes.
I first got into the genre with DoomRL because I was a fan of Doom so I'd like to hear what you guys think of it and the legally distinct successor Jupiter Hell.
It's time for TOME! This week we play the storied titan of traditional roguelikes: Tales of Maj'Eyal developed by @darkgodone
We're talking dungeons, outer space mages, time-traveling wizards, beach dating adventures, and taxidermied fox art. If you can think of it, this 14 year old open-source game likely has it!
Tales of Maj'Eyal on the steam deck works surprisingly well. Especially with the OldRPG workshop tileset mod giving it a very SNES Final Fantasy vibe.
Here we see the cursed human Anakin Skywalker standing victorious on the Daikara volcano's summit, after narrowly defeating Rantha the Worm and an army of elite ice giants.
This week's podcast episode is on the boomer shooter Nightmare Reaper! A DOS-inspired mayhem-filled FPS that really opens the hospital door to the world that is roguelike shooters.
All I need to say about this game: chainsaw grappling hook
@grogpod NeoGAF, now that is a name I've not heard in a long, long time.
Regardless it's no more an indie then grow home. The developer is a subsidiary of Nexon but it keeps getting referred to as an indie game and I find that baffling and concerning.
This week in the podcast, we lock and load our AK-47s and hand them over to our amphibian friend to talk about the twin stick shooter roguelite AK-xolotl.
If you ever thought your runs of mowing down forest creatures needed more baby burping minigames, then you've come to the right place! 🔫🐸
