Do you give a single, solitary fuck about yourself?

Or at least do you like to avoid pain, misery, fatigue, confusion, depression, anxiety?

You might want to avoid COVID-19, as we've known for a year that COVID is Neuroinvasive:

Neuroinvasive: "ability to enter the PNS or CNS":

  • Hematologically
  • Axonal transport (anterograde or retrograde)
  • Increased BBB penetrance due to widespread inflammatory activity & endothelial dysfunction

No really, do you care yet?

Or at least do you like to avoid pain, misery, fatigue, confusion, depression, anxiety?

You might want to avoid COVID-19, as we've known for a year that COVID is Neurotropic: able to infect and replicate in cells of the nervous system.

*Olfactory mucosal cells
*Bowman's Glands

  • OSNs replication seen in anosmia.
    *Multiple glial cell types
  • ACE2 receptor uptake
    *NRP-1 receptor binding activity.

How about now?

Don't want to suffer? Be maimed? Debased?

You might want to avoid COVID-19, as we've known for a year that COVID is Neurovirulent: highly problematic and pathological to the central nervous system.

*Direct Invasion

  • Dysregulated systemic inflammatory responses
  • Hypoxemic responses due to endothelial dysfunction and coagulopathy
  • Autoimmune / molecular mimicry responses

Onto Air Quality, Air Pollutants, and Neuropsychiatric Disorders.

Presenter says this is a superficial look at this because it's such a robust topic.

Presenter points out CO2, CO, O3 (Ozone), Lead, and Insidiously, Particulate Matter PM 2.5, etc as important components of anthropogenic change, especially PM2.5.

PM 2.5: residual matter from combustion 2.5 microns or smaller.

PM2.5 pipelines easily across the Blood Brain Barrier and through the alveoli of Lungs.
https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/21/12/4306 Lungs without barrier.

Air Pollution is the SINGLE GREATEST CAUSE of lost QALY (quality-adjusted life-years).

[OpEd] Put that way, I am less surprised that COVID is blown off by Capitalists.Though I'd bet that is higher than even air pollution anymore.

Best part about lockdowns: showed significant benefit.
https://www.pnas.org/doi/abs/10.1073/pnas.2006853117

5.5 Billion people live in areas that lose 2.9 years average life expectancy per person due to pollution.

Multiple meta-analyses associate air pollution and neuropsychiatric disorders. Dementia, Depression, Suicidality, Stroke, Parkinson's especially. Autism as well, presenter states.

Emphasizes Alzheimer's as having the strongest odds ratio to PM2.5 pollutants.

1/8/2023: Climate Psychiatry 101

APA Talk in May, 2022.

Lead Presenters of Material: Peter Chien, John Sullenbarger, Emily Schutzenhofer MDs.

Source Material will be linked to. I'll summarize, discuss, denote [OpEd]s by me.

To make my life easier, the presenters did upload a PDF. So I don't have to commentate and annotate, copy+paste on a separate Google Docs, but instead just use the PDF itself.

Yay 2023.

APA Climate Committee is one year old. YOUNG. Psychiatry Climate Alliance is 6 years old. Also young.

[OpEd] We try to do the right thing it would seem but it takes us a while longer.

No Financial Disclosures in the Climate Psychiatry 101 lecture.

Sounds like the first one they've ever had tbh.

I don't know whether to be encouraged. They're starting with polling. I guess this gears you toward the audience, but if the audience denies climate change, damn, that's mitigating the usefulness of this lecture for me.

hannu_ikonen,
@hannu_ikonen@med-mastodon.com avatar

Results of the poll at the APA meeting:

92% agree global warming is happening
86% agree caused by humans
92% are worried about global warming
97% believe it's already affecting their patients
84% want to do something about it.

[OpEd] not at all surprised that the bottom number is the lowest. Nobody ever wants to do anything. See: Twitter stayers.

Ok, Mastodon…let’s try this out.

I’m still gonna stick around over on Twitter until the bitter end, but I want to try to get this new world figured out in the meantime!

Any tips…?
