"Are you decent?"

Not morally, but I'm wearing pants if that's what you're asking.

"Are you repugnant?"

I probably am to conservatives, but I don't smell weird if that's what you're getting at.

I have a sudden mighty nerd to write a parody of Ella Fitzgerald's song "a tisket a tasket" but about debugging a broken kubernetes cluster

I... I just need it, okay? For reasons

My director told me about a conference that she really liked and wanted to sent some of our principal engineers to. It was the O'Reilly Architecture Conference... But unfortunately, it's not a thing anymore. What's your favorite alternative conference that's close to that one?

I would burn so many gpus and do many questionable things if it got me the ability to throw a magic wand at a fuck cluster of terraform and tighten up / debug all of the AWS iam bullshit going on in there.

Sincerely,
Has now spent two days trying to debug EKS + KMS interactions

... I just typed a sed s/before/after expression into discord out of habit because of a typo that I was too lazy to fix.

And then discord just... edited my comment, correctly, using the sed expression

amazing

It's absolutely unreal to me how much my brain on estrogen absolutely lives and dies on carbs.

Before transition? Eh

After transition? CARBS

I NEEEED IT

NEEDS THEM

SOAK MY BODY IN THE CARBOHYDRATES

But, like, I have no idea where this came from. Legitimately. Wtf is going on here

My favorite genres of animated movies:

  • sapphic and queer love
  • trans coded coming of age
  • traumatized parent tries to raise young kid and struggles with not traumatizing them while young kid deals with being torn between external expectations and internal desires
  • strong female lead kicks ass and is allowed to be both powerful and pretty

how adhd am i? very. very highly extremely levels of adhd

You want me to design extremely resilient distributed systems and teach people how to do that, design architecture, and level up an organization? Sure, no problem

Make one single solitary tiny lil phone call or fill out even the barest hint of paperwork? Absolutely not, it is so hard

What's one of the silliest domain names you own? Mine is legit-elephant.lol and there's an entire story behind it. Some of you were even here for this!

C'mere and sit down, I'll tell you the story of the fateful night in the fediverse where Elon Musk flipped his lid and the entire fediverse flipped a middle finger to him.

The story begins during the winter holidays of 2022, back when hachyderm lived on Kris Nova's servers

It was a different world then, wasn't it?

I have a somewhat controversial view of AI in that I don't think it's actually going to ruin anything because we were already doing a damn good job of throwing everything good about humanity in the trash long before AI came around.

That said, there's something that's really really painful to me: capitalism wants to control scarce resources, and late stage capitalism turned human interaction into a resource to be hoarded, harvested, and farmed.

AI magnified that, but the damage was already done

"The most valuable code in the world is often glue code" -- Ok yeah, so then why are we so fucking bad at it, huh?

Seriously. You know what would make my whole life right now? A flow chart. With a sarcastic paperclip or a snarky stapler or some other anthropomorphic substitute for soulless capitalism.

"Hey! Listen! What do you wanna build?"
Door 1: A CRUD server
Door 2: A CRUD client
Door 3: A CRUD to CRUD pipe

"Well you came to the right place! How much CRUD are we talkin'?"

[[ etc etc ]]

Dude bros will really spend millions of dollars on analytics programs rather than go to therapy or actually talk to anyone to figure out how they feel about shit

Introducing an innovative framework for: product discovery, market research, customer focus groups, developer experience, product led growth, business intelligence, and more.

I call it "TALK"

T: TALK TO YOUR FUCKIN PEOPLE
A: ALL OF THEM, SERIOUSLY, JUST DO IT
L: LEGITIMATELY, THIS ACTUALLY WORKS
K: K? THAT WASN'T SO HARD NOW WAS IT

Story time! One time I worked at a company and they got Exactly What They Asked For, but not what they wanted.

I worked there for such a short amount of time that I actually kept them off my resume entirely

The other day, I got on my soapbox bit about productivity, how humans work and how we don't need to choose between having this nice happy world where people are allowed to help each other and "actually being productive"

I also described humans as a social and equitable animal that wants to help others. But... I don't have any scientific citations on hand for that; I've seen research around it over the years, I just don't have references on hand.

Do y'all happen to know of any I can read?

If there's one thing I wish I burn entirely to the ground and wipe away all traces and remnants of, its the misplaced notion that the productivity of Knowledge Work can be managed, measured, analyzed, and optimized as if all one needed to do was drip feed heroin up the arse of their hapless workers.

If I had a friend who has a genuine interest in math and data science, how would I go about finding learning materials for them if they want to jump into a job in the industry?

Some points:

  1. They want to actually learn things, not just code monkey LLMs
  2. Getting a hype train fad job is fine but the underlying "real" skills are what they're after
  3. If desired: How might they optimize for "get a job" quicker while being able to learn the longer deeper info as they go?

I swear, so much complexity of my life right now comes from me wanting to be able to graphically draw out an interconnected hypergraph but also have a convenient textual representation of said hypergraph

I'm sure this makes zero sense to people. But ugh. It's so frustrating to have the ideas in your brain and just not be able to really tease them out in a useful way for others

Signed,
trying to figure out how to map "do the platform engineering thing more better" into strategy and architecture
