behold, the git logs of a highly optimal system in which nothing goes wrongly ever

good thing nix saves time and neovim makes you more efficient as a person amirite

To be clear, this is entirely self inflicted. Essentially everything here is fully reproducible, so if I just leave it the fuck alone, its fine. In fact, if I wasn't on the absolutely most bleeding fucking edge of everything for funsies I would also be even more fine.

But hey, live dangerously, get swank ass features 2 weeks before everyone else, yolo, etc etc.

@hazelweakly polite bump on relay access!

@arrdem I have no idea when this can feasibly be a thing, honestly. But I'm going to add this to the github issue for relays so that its clear there's an actual desire for this :)

    @est I think the stat dumping strategy there is unviable for late campaign play because it completely breaks the difficulty of rolls required to gen crits in the CPU?

    But I could be wrong

    @est it's a thankless job, shitposting via CS degree buzzword bingo, but somebody's gotta do it

    I see a pattern:

    New fediverse admin allows unrestricted growth of their instance.

    Then there’s a period of excitement, more people rush in, numbers go up.

    Then problems emerge that are too much at the scale that they’re operating at.

    Then they quit (and optionally shut down the server).

    I’m glad we on strangeobject.space have set ourselves up for slow growth (sign-ups on manual approval or via invite) and can pause it at any point if we need a breather.

    @hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

    @esther @admin yeah having the admin account is super useful. Looking back, hachyderm would've definitely benefited from doing that from the start :)

    @oliphant I tried everything

    This shit is somehow react + static slides + SVGs + iframes (multiple) + JS timers, some event listeners, resetting playbackSpeed if its modified, and some other bullshit going on in a way that renders every possible workaround I could think of non functional.

    It's impressive, actually, but absolutely infuriating.

    @ilmai @emilygorcenski tags and categories are actually pretty separate concepts (most CMS solutions conflate the two though, which adds to the confusion)

    But both are really terrible for heterogeneous authoring solutions because you don't have a central source of controlling what gets tagged as what (which is the point Emily is making)

    Thread incoming. I'm trying to figure out better ways to do this sort of mapping of risk analysis <-> SLOs <-> revenue streams. I can do it, I'm just hoping there's better methods out there than I currently have.

    I'd love any and all comments/suggestions/thoughts/etc y'all have! 🧵

    @w8emv @mononcqc ooh I haven't heard about those somehow. I'm gonna look those up soon :)

    I suspect there's some correlation between the physics and geology, but I also suspect the actual friction of every individual sand grain makes the math a bit too hairy to fully do?

    hazelweakly,
    @hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

    @mononcqc @w8emv oh yes! I saw you mention this at some point, I think (or it was in lorin's list of resilience papers)

    Great example of what can go wrong, unfortunately, and I don't know what it's going to take for the software industry to have it's collective reckoning, but I hope it's not from tragedy

    @adrianco @palvaro oooh and Casey was also on this paper? I definitely need to read this then. Thank you!
