“Inspiration porn is the portrayal of people with disabilities (or other uncommon life circumstances) as being inspirational to able-bodied people“ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inspiration_porn

(yes this is a subtoot of the “AI”/BeMyEyes video that they forgot to add captions to)

Would pay to be able to turn off the AI stuff in “Teams (work or school)”. It's uneccessary, wasteful and nonsensical.

“Over events in your ankle”? Sorry, what?

Not loving the way "Tornado Alley" has suddenly decided to live up to its name 😬

I've lived in Nebraska my whole life and prior to the past few weeks the closest I'd been in range of a tornado was ~10 miles. A couple weeks ago an EF-3 (borderline 4) rampaged just 20 blocks away. And there's more to come 😫

@5t3ph oh no! stay save!

I'm fairly sure I've heard the term "future music" used idiomatically to mean a thing to consider in the future.

I was trying to pin it down so I could check I was using it properly, but not finding reference to it anywhere.

Is it even a thing?

hdv,
@hdv@front-end.social avatar

@sarajw would be in Dutch!

hdv,
@hdv@front-end.social avatar

@sarajw hmm not very but somewhat negative, I think it's used when people are sceptical the thing will ever happen / realise, so quite similar to what you're describing

Project announcement incoming! I'm happy to announce that @Myriam and I launched Neurospicy. It's an agency, a boutique consultancy and a project dedicated to neurodiversity - all rolled up into one.

It's still a MVP, but the idea is to have a place to offer different content around neurodiversity, including training, socks, and stickers. I have no idea where this is going, and honestly, this is the most fun part, dopamine rush?

🔗 Popover in Baseline!

“With Firefox 125 shipping the feature, good news on popover:
This web feature is now available in all three major browser engines, and becomes Baseline Newly Available as of April 16, 2024.”

@ayo what brings you to The Hague?

Okay, so when making a popover I think the logic should go something like this:

  1. Use title if the content of the popover is just text.

  2. Use the popover attribute if the content is more than plain text and like a menu of options or something.

  3. Use <dialog> if you need to force the user to make a decision or block all other interactions on the page.

hdv,
@hdv@front-end.social avatar

@SaraSoueidan @csscade yup , +1 to what Sara says, would skip (1) and go straight for making a custom tooltip, even for plain text!

(and with the popover attribute, you can have it in top layer, and get some keyboard behaviours and aria-expanded state built in)

It looks like I might be in the US while AIR are touring with Moon Safari so was checking tickets.

Turns out pop music tickets are pricey there! Same show is €47 in Amsterdam, ~£100 in London, ~$400 in LA (resale but still). Yay government-subsidised music venues.

hdv,
@hdv@front-end.social avatar

@nhoizey apparently a common complaint was they never played much from that album so they're now doing a tour with just that album plus more

Hit this Excel bug where it will display weekdays, except if you choose certain dates, on which it will just display a bunch of #'s. (Turns out, they only appear when the text doesn't fit)

in excel, a person changes date from tuesday 28 may to 29 of may, at which point the cell doesn't display the wednesday, but merely a series of #'s

constantly amazed by Apple Music's inability to perform even the most basic tasks ... in this case: if you sort by Artist and Year, Ascending, it seems to decide that of course you then want Title to be sorted in reverse/descending order for albums in the same year... (see the order for volume 1 and 2, and volume 6 and 7)

hdv,
@hdv@front-end.social avatar

@patrick_h_lauke my Apple Music (the app not the subscription service) has managed to replace all my carefully curated album covers with random other ones, I have still not figured out if there is a fix :(
