heygarrett, to books
@heygarrett@social.lol avatar

I grew up reading Harry Potter, over and over again. I have no interest in reading it again.

But I have yet to find another book or series that captivates my brain with the passage of time. The school year continued on in the background, only mentioned with vague descriptions in between the important moments and events. It created, for my brain, what I can only describe as a sense of scale.

Can anyone recommend a book or series that creates a similar sense of time scale?

Does anyone have a fix for this or know a setting to prevent this from popping up? https://mastodon.social/@ctietze/112206121621234018

@manuel
@ctietze This used to be a problem for me as well, but I can’t remember how I took care of it. This looks promising though:

Younger child is keen to learn Mac apps. She started with Pages, making a Missing Spider poster that caused mild panic when she took it to school. She has moved to Keynote, making a presentation about why she needs her own shower. (Because her sister takes too long, apparently!)

is by far the best browser on desktop. Let me be clear, I am not saying that because I am ideologically opposed to using Google products. I use YouTube and Google Workspaces. Chrome genuinely has nothing to offer over Firefox. If your website doesn't work in Firefox then I'm not using your website.

heygarrett,

@Gargron Unfortunately not everyone has the luxury of choosing not to use a website just because it doesn’t work outside of Chrome.

So I finished main story game. I just started the DLC, but I have the feeling this was what I needed to get me back to work on project. Sometimes one needs to let things down completely, and immerse oneself completely into something totally different - to cast and let oneself be absorbed by that other dimension of things. This is real evasion. I am grateful that (at least some) video games allow me to do that, such as playing . You should too.

heygarrett,
@heygarrett@social.lol avatar

@StraToN I can say with certainty it wouldn’t have worked as well for me, though I can’t speak for the wider audience. Discovering the mystery, little by little, is part of what drove my curiosity to explore. I don’t think I would have been as motivated without that.

Took some time tonight to write a very minimal config, putting NVChad in the rear view mirror. It's just enough for me to do some coding and write in . I may be missing a few things but I understand it a lot more.

heygarrett,
@heygarrett@social.lol avatar

@teamtuck Does this work for you?

vim.keymap.set("n", "<leader>ts", function() vim.cmd.edit(table.concat({ "Vault/Bible/Bible\ Study/", vim.fn.strftime("%y-%m-%d"), ".md", }, "")) end, {})

heygarrett,
@heygarrett@social.lol avatar

@teamtuck I forgot the ~/ because I was testing it locally in a directory. I edited my post to add that.

heygarrett,
@heygarrett@social.lol avatar

@teamtuck I'm glad I could help!

I'm not sure I understand your question though. You can add additional commands inside the anonymous function, if that's what you mean.

vim.keymap.set("n", "<leader>lhs", function()
vim.cmd.echo("first command")
vim.cmd.echo("second command")
end, {})

I sure hope this formatting is readable. 😅

Well that isn't the kind of news you enjoy receiving on a Saturday afternoon…looks like something changed in the WidgetKit Image Size limit or enforcement in iOS 17.1…so now every small Widgetsmith widget which uses a single photo will now fail to load, and be replaced with an empty grey box.

😱

Somehow I didn't catch this during my testing on the iOS 17.1 betas, so now I'm in a race to see if I can fix & deploy an update before iOS 17.1's adoption reaches a critical mass. 🤪

Wish me luck!

Clean up some code and did it all in today . . . only to find a weird indent issue where it injects some spaces when I didn't purposefully do it. Opened the file in and found the problem right away. Sigh....

@collin Try turning off Match Frame Rate; I think it can clash with the tv trying to do the same thing. It’s been a while since I experienced this issue though, so it might be something else.

The updates come with some new Apple Music features (cover templates, favorites, song suggestions in playlists), some small iPad additions, and other minor enhancements.
