I'd like to know what's going to change. We'll spend hundreds of millions for 10,000 people to think that they are getting home 30 seconds earlier.

Why couldn't this money be doesn't solving an actual problem? Maybe house some homeless. Maybe feed some starving people. Taking care of people in a bad situation - now that's a game changer.

Catering to people with 2 vehicles each of which is worth $80k along with a house worth $800k isn't changing the game. It's playing the game the exact same way.

    @grivettcarnac The time doesn't work for me as I'm not downtown and usually I haven't even managed breakfast by that time.

    I'd rather they were in the afternoon and an interesting ride to some park or something for some socialising as I don't know any of you.

    This is really important.

    The main thing that makes it hard to achieve nature and green in cities isn’t density of buildings or density of people — it's density of cars. And the more well-designed density of people and buildings you achieve, the fewer cars you need or want.

    @BrentToderian Compare that to the famous Byward market in - where the city is so desperate for pedestrians we fill the road 67% with parked cars and not a healthy tree in sight.

    I spoke this morning to the founder of a medium sized business about AI.

    He indicated his intended use was to use ChatGPT to accellerate production of marketing materials, training materials, communications, both written and video. Thus allowing him to save money on writers and visits to the studio.

    Post-editing still required, but the LLM helps to weave his brand-specific ideas into the copy.

    I never imaged the killer app of LLM's is to produce a greater volume of marketing materials.

    @grivettcarnac @johnefrancis advertising should be an output of marketing but marketing is a much larger area.

    If you don't do all the proper product marketing and management first, advertising most likely won't be as effective as it should be.

    As for AI producing effective collateral, we'd need a few more generations of AI where they can actually do analysis of things that don't exist.

    Now, most Ottawa companies seem to be terrible at marketing, mostly because they don't understand the value. For example, thinking that 2024 AI can do marketing.

    I found an enormous hornet trapped inside this morning, probably a yellowjacket or bald-faced hornet queen that overwintered in the house.

    I caught it in my bug catcher and took it outside, but it was quick and flew off before I could smash it with the fly swatter.

    I apologize for those of you who may be stung by its tens of thousands of offspring later this summer and may die.

    I have some white plastic chairs which look dirty, but will not wipe clean. While they are old, they are not all scratched up and the finish seems intact. The plastic just seemed to have darkened in some areas.

    Rather than landfill them (or worse save them but never use them), there must be a "land on a comet" age cleaner, or paint that will make these look like they are only two years old.

    Help me hive mind!

    @Nerdfest I don't want anything abrasive as that will just create future cleaning and bleach would kill a living organism of which I can't think of any that desire plastic.

    I was hoping for some space age + 50 years spray on miracle cleaner with no elbow grease requirement.
