I see this line used a lot, and it sure does sound snappy but it doesn’t actual make any sense. Exploitation requires an exploiter, and the troops are funding themselves by talking to relatives and maybe standing at a table in a supervised group for a two hours on the weekend. No one is profiting off this fundraiser except the troops themselves.

There is actual child exploitation problems in the US. I think you are falling in to the qAnon style trap where some people talk about “child sexual abuse” by a secret cabals instead of talking about actual child abuse occurring in their own towns because it sounds Spicer to talk about the first one.

This isn’t a topic that’s worth much time or energy.

Okay at this point I just have to assume you are a troll who likes to argue without caring about or understanding a topic. If you did care, the infromation is readily available. But your intent is to argue, so here you are sealioning.

It’s easy to say “100% should go to the cause”, but that’s literally never how these things work. Go check up on any charity you like, none of them donate 100% to one thing. The scouts are running a drive for various causes, and to try and reach for “exploration” because it funds scholarships for under privligaged scouts is bad faith.

As I said before, this isn’t a topic that is worth time or energy. You can insist on your hard line definition but understand that most people don’t agree it’s exploitation and the girls know they are helping a good cause. I know it sounds spicy to say it’s a consisparcy harming kids, but that doesn’t reflect reality.

Go argue about actual child labor laws and leave the girl scouts and comet pizza alone.

Well this sure is an unpopular opinion. Mostly because there is no way to define or enforce this and a draconian limitation of individual rights to a nonexistent problem, over population is a smoke screen. There is more than enough land and resources to support billions more people.

This is literally captilsism 101, if the rich have you angry at other humans that don’t even exist yet you will spend less time on disturbing the resources they are hoarding.

Thinking it’s easier to enforce humanity wide birth control than to tax and build houses in the empty areas is dillusional.

No. Sorry, I know you’re going for a joke and I don’t wanna be a buzz kill. But it’s still messed up to deadname. Doesn’t matter if they are cis, trans or an asshole.

Look I totally agree he is a massive piece of shit. But so is Caitlyn Jenner and Blair White. Every single person everywhere has the right to their identity and to conceptualize themselves however they wish. And if we make respecting those choices, such as their name, contingent on good behavior that just signals to every trans person watching that we also have conditional respect to exist and function in society comfortable, safely and normally.

I’m not defending Ted, he is a major PoS, but defending the concept that no one can control how they were born and those circumstances should not be a limitation on how any one wished to live their life.

Well I appreciate your collected response, it’s very common for these type of situations to turn in to a flame war. I entirely feel you and agree that Cruz is not a deadname situation. But after sitting with and pondering your response all day, I think my real rub comes down to the term deadname like thus? I’ll be the first to admit that maybe i, as a trans woman, might be too close or sensitive to be totally objective here. But while I get that you were doing a joke, steaming from it NOT being a deadname situation but treating it as one felt to me as you were thinking it’s funny to actually deadname people. And that just sorta stuck me. Maybe my reply had more to do with me than with you, but this is something I’ve seen a lot lately. It a trans person does something that makes the internet angry, suddenly to a ton of people deadnaming does become fun to them. And I felt like you were going at the same vein.

You’re right, we are just two passing strangers. And I don’t have to like every comment in the whole of lemmy, but it felt wrong to not say something. Nagged at me when I scrolled away, so I just wanted to clarify. Even though I know those sort of relies only ever get downvotes. 😂

They use the language of “protecting women” to hide bigotry and exclusion while ignoring the core concept of liberation from patriarchy. Pick up any feminist text and youll see a rich history of women allying with queer people. Absolutely nothing about their cause is “just”.

I can only speak for myself really, but personally it felt like such an unnecessary movie. I enjoyed the visuals and music, but the actual plot was grating. The original was great for it’s unique approach, but it was only unique at the time. Now it’s just Disney printing money from a recognizable brand, just like star wars.

House Bill 257 aims to prohibit individuals from using gender-designated facilities that differ from their sex assigned at birth in government buildings, correctional facilities and domestic violence shelters unless they have undergone a transition-related surgery and legally amended the sex on their birth certificate.

My first instinct is to tear apart the logic of this, because this wildly doesn’t even adress the lived reality of many trans people. I pass as a cis woman and I can’t remember the last time I was misgendered, but I also am not getting surgery. Unless they start doing genital checks at the door, I don’t see how this would even affect me? Now I know I’m privileged for that, I’m just calling attention to an arbitrary metric that SURGEY makes using my bathroom acceptable, but it’s the only metric cis bigots can even comprehend.

But I know logic isn’t the point, hatred is the point. Congrats Utah. You put meaningless discrimination on the books. Hate you too buddy.

I think it’s sorta telling that you did a wiki search for loaded language instead of one for gender affirming care. To be clear, it’s absolutely not loaded language, it’s just language you don’t understand, literally anything can seem vague if you don’t know what it entails, if you truly don’t want to be like /conservative then I think you should be a but more proactive at self education.

Here is a better rundown from a neutral source. But tldr it’d everything from parental support/respect for prounons/new haircut/clothes and possibly puberty blockers for minors. To hormones, electrolysis and an extremely long list of different surgical options too numerous to lost depending on the person.

So the idea of blocking all medical options for minors is ridiculous since no minors are getting surgery. Period. And puberty blockers are both reversible and have been used for decades. Legislation restricting what psychologists, pediatricians and endocrinologists have all agreed as safe and effective treatment is just lunacy and bigotry.
