A theoretical question about the Microsoft Recall thing I'm not sure I've seen floating around. My knowledge of these things isn't extensive and it might be silly however.

Many health care providers use Zoom or similar services for remote visits. If recall isn't storing things in an encrypted format is that a massive potential HIPPA violation?

@SRLevine HIPAA is only applicable to your provider sharing your info; if you're the MS user, MS is not bound by HIPAA/health info isn't privileged or special on user side. (If your dr's office is MS user, then HIPAA would be in effect.)

SOmeone who knows more could perhaps say something about the fact that dr's are at present using machine learning on telemedicine visits to take notes; I am pretty certain I'm observing this and I have my doubts about its security.

Aftermath of #Petrocultures2024 last week: colleagues are now sending emails urging the Academic Senate to take up the matter of #policing on campus. Because there was a SERIOUS police presence/perimeter. A number of attendees dropped out in protest of that alone... & I don't blame them one bit

I think it's gonna take a lot more than eloquent letters... And unf I don't think we should plan any more conferences for police state campuses, ever again

So look.

The "press" and the "media" are not the problem people. That so many of you think this is by design.

The press and the media are supposed to be the 4th estate.

The watchdogs of government.

The intelligence wing of the people.

Corporate media is a problem, yes, but the press as an institution are not.

But because so many people remain ignorant to the role of the press, I've no doubt that we will be without them in total sooner rather than later.

This somewhat reminds me of arguments about how people throwing paint on museum art in climate protest aren't "doing anything". Yeah they didn't singlehandedly end the regime of SHell et al., but: you're talking about it, aren't you?

Also, why is the entire burden on the students here?

We learned after that first full day that we needed to remind people about masks... in fairness to everyone there was a lot of... excess communication... with this conf in the moments leading into the event, bc of everything being so nonstop bananas at USC, so honestly I take responsibility for us not communicating that better in the immediate leadup.
