Opus: Echo of Starsong created by #Sigono is an adventure sci-fi game with great world building, strong visual identity and superb audio. It’s an interactive storytelling with simple mechanics and slow-paced gameplay that takes about 10 hours to compete. Very enjoyable. Headphones recommended.

The one thing that struck me in the product launch showcase is that the founders asked two questions: next eclipse and proteins in almond. The answers given by the to both questions were wrong. They didn't care to fact-check a pre-recorded video? The worrying part of the user interface is that the user can't verify if the computer is making things up.

Safari 17.1 is here!

Managed Media Source API is now on iPhone, providing a better and more power-efficient means to serve streaming video.

Plus quite a few bug fixes and feature polish.

jaqbsy,

@jensimmons while adding all these great new features, can the Safari team please also fix this annoying bug with DDG and other websites, like DuckDuckGo, becoming unresponsive? The 17.1 made it even worse for some reason.

The EU chat control legislation proposal to scan literally ever private digital messaging in Europe has been postponed until another vote in December. It’s baffling there is hardly any news and media cover, and we are reading about such important legislative progress on blogs.

On my last two trips I’ve ran into problems connecting to captive portal hotel Wi-Fis with my beloved Beryl AX. I found the answer deep in a support forum and wrote it down (along with a love letter to the device) so you’ll find it faster: https://hynek.me/til/beryl-ax-captive-portal/

jaqbsy,

@hynek I had some problems with no Internet or no captive portals being triggered on Beryl AX when the DNS rebind protection was enabled the first time I connected to a network or when all traffic, including router’s, was forced over VPN. I had to flip off and on both settings.
