If Biden was trying to have Trump assassinated (he wasn't) and the president has absolute immunity (as Trump claims), then that was perfectly legal.

Right?

Has anyone else noticed that major sites no longer work with @mozilla Firefox Reader Mode, e.g. @BBC_News_Labs @guardian, etc?

Error is "Failed to load article from page"

For this low-vision reader, this is a massive accessibility regression.

jcct,
@jcct@mastodon.online avatar

I also use reader view since it provides a lower cognitive load and aids focusing on the content. These media companies though, are dependent on ad revenue, so they do whatever they can to force you to view the ads.

If it is a source I use regularly, I gladly pay for an ad free experience to support them, but there are many sources that I read only infrequently.

We sacrifice clarity of information to pay for it. There should be a better way.

jcct,
@jcct@mastodon.online avatar

True. In fact I made that argument when working at AOL in the 2000s, but ad revenue always trumped good UX design.

Unfortunately, if they are all unreadable then there are no other options to go to.

One idea I've had would be to provide content ad free and then offer the option to "like" or "dislike" an article for a small (25¢?) fee that would also allow you to add comments.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @pluralistic @mozilla @BBC_News_Labs @guardian

jcct,
@jcct@mastodon.online avatar

My idea would be to buy credits (<$10 for 40 credits) to be used wherever the system is in place, requiring the person to authenticate themselves as a human being.

There's a lot more to the idea, than I can include in a toot, but the big idea is that as people publish content on a topic that is "liked/disliked" or, better, "trusted/distrusted", their "trust score" for those topics would increase/decrease. .

I know. That's part of the reason I haven't done it. I'm an experience designer not a data scientist 🙂

It would need to be an open data standard rather than a platform, possibly using Blockchain (uggg) or better yet Solid and controlled by someone like the W3C.

The not-so-hostile takeover of the Republican Party is almost finished. The moniker GOP has already been replaced with MAGA. The only thing left is an official rebranding as the Trump Party by the TNC.

Any ideas on what animal should represent them?

I hate Republicans
By The Happytones

They stand for greed
that’s unrestrained by shame or pity.
They own the factory,
the penthouse in the city.
They pledge allegiance to
their friends with lots of dollars.
They concentrate the wealth
and they disregard the squalor.

jcct,
@jcct@mastodon.online avatar

Comrades, arise now,
while there’s something left to save.
Fight for a future
where not everything is paved.
Though they are likely to prevail,
all creation insists
that we strive to resist
the Republicans.

They stand to profit from
the mess they’re engineering,
the new world
order of unbridled profiteering.

jcct,
@jcct@mastodon.online avatar

Their self-esteem is high,
they feel no obligation.
They put their faith and trust
in God and corporations.

They stand for piety
that doesn’t suffer rivals.
They’re waving flags and guns
and quoting from the Bible.
