@jamesthomson When creating new Disney Villains the “creatives” use current Disney Executives are role models but water them down, because “there’s no way anyone would believe they’re as bad as all that.”
@RobW I'm trying to write UI tests for a Web view in our app. We control the HTML and the wrinkle is it gets localised for 12 different languages and is controlled by marketing. So looking for the content scares me to death.
I was excited to realise that I'd met Samantha Béart, the actor who plays Karlach - my favourite character in Baldur's Gate 3 - eleven years ago.
Turns out they also played Random Dent in the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and I got the cast to sign my script book when the live show came through Glasgow.
Sadly the photographic evidence is somewhat blurry, but that's on brand given the single very blurry photo I have of me meeting Douglas Adams.
@twostraws@simonbs I really like Spirited. I convinced Caitlin to watch it and she gave it a grudging thumbs up. It’s a good musical and the cast is great.
I watched 4 movies on my birthday yesterday, and I'm worried about withdrawal symptoms. I think, to be safe, I should watch 3 today, and 2 tomorrow, to ease back into life.
@gregtitus@kvangork@schwa I don’t know that it’s so much empire building as it is pressure from product partners and marketing to build all the features.
Plus one EM doesn’t really have time to manage 10 engineers let alone more. Just 1:1s would be crazy. I find my team is about 50% weekly 1:1s and 50% every other week.
@schwa@gregtitus@kvangork none of us work within 100 miles of each other. So having 30min reserved every week for me to just listen to what they have to say feels about right. I’m there to ensure they’re successful; I can’t do that if I don’t hear what they have to say. And in some cases what they don’t say followed up with a probing question or two.
But based on my experience of my managers at Apple, the fact that I want my team to succeed might be insane.
@jamesthomson@cstross These are systems created by people who are generally unable to admit they have no idea whatsoever. So it doesn’t surprise me if their creations won’t.
