Hey Jerry, does fastly do instances like digital ocean. I was wanting to do some experimental instances to test out some things learning.
Are they more economical?
Any recs, just if you know if not that’s fine. I got my domain through network solutions whew
So now I’m going to go look for a few more domains for my project. I’m on a budget, most of the projects are educational or research.🧐 if you have time if not that’s ok

@EVDHmn fastly is only a pass-through CDN with some WAF capabilities. You’ll still need a hosting provider, like DO or Hetzner. If you wanted to experiment on the cheap, i would go with something like an akkoma instance in an inexpensive VPS. Fastly does have a free tier, with a data limit, but likely fine for a single user instance.

@EVDHmn akkoma is software that is an alternative to mastodon - it is much lighter weight and doesn’t require as much server resources as mastodon does.

I have had several people that received the ban hammer recently grousing about how it goes against my air of “kindness” and the quote I have in my profile. I firmly believe in the importance of being kind to other people. But there are limits.

Do not confuse kindness with weakness, please.

@igmrlm @xabean I haven’t been able to track down why it works correctly some times and not others. But generally, the issue is that YouTube (and some other sites) decide to provide a German version of the site when the Infosec.exchange server requests the header info to build the preview card - that happens because the server is in Germany.
