Welcome to the Day 05 thread

Today I'm taking 2 trains (137km total) and there is one bike leg to all three border lines (34km)

I've brought my departure from Enschede forward an hour - so as to avoid rain later on the bike

I'll cross these borders:
🚲 Barlo (DE) – Winterswijk (NL) – dismantled line
🚲 Bocholt (DE) – Aalten (NL) – dismantled 750mm gauge tramway
🚲 Borken-Burlo (DE) – Winterswijk (NL) – dismantled line

    @Squig @casblaauw @jon If better connections between Scandinavia and mainland Europe are needed, perhaps duplicating the Fehmarn belt rail tunnel with another connection between Gedser and Rostock would help. This would rebalance the connections, currently biased to the cold-war-era West.

    Endstation , was früher mal Kreuzungsbahnhof mit Anschluss in vier Richtungen war.

    Danke @jon dass du hier im Rahmen vom Projekt etwas Aufmerksamkeit bringst.

    Bocholt ist ein großartiges Beispiel, wie über Jahrzehnte Bahninfrastruktur zurückgebaut und in den Individualverkehr investiert wurde.

    Der letzte verbliebene Ast Wesel-Bocholt ist überhaupt nurnoch in Betrieb, weil die Stadt Bocholt in den 90ern der Bahn das Wagenmaterial stellte.

    @jon did you see this study from 2022 about reactivation of Bad Bentheim-Gronau as a continuation of (Coevorden-)Neuenhaus-Bad Bentheim?     They do indeed propose a new alignment around Gronau, utilising the short Bad Bentheim-Achterberg line for the first part.

    Gestern Aussprache zur Bundespolitik im grünen Ortsverband. So richtig glücklich war niemand, Stimmung schwankte zwischen "wir müssen da durch" und "besser jetzt mitgestalten" einerseits und Kommunikations- und Medienschelte andererseits. FDP kam nicht gut weg. Würde ja gerne wissen, wie das in den anderen Ampelparteien diskutiert wird. Und wie es gelingen könnte, aus der Ampel noch eine erfolgreiche Gestaltungskoalition zu machen, die zu der Aufgabe steht, die vor uns liegt.

    18 daily trains Wörth — Lauterbourg per direction
    2 Wörth > Lauterbourg are direct trains without intermediate stops
    1 daily train is heading over to Karlsruhe in the evening

    This is btw. three times the many trains as :sncf: :fr_ter: :fluo: operates here on the inner-French relation to Strasbourg.

    ✔️ Credit Card or SEPA payment
    ✔️ Web App can be used even by those without a German address
    ✔️ “Pause” function if you don’t need ticket one month

    (Note: the tech of eezy.nrw is better but this works only in Nordrhein Westfalen. For a Germany-wide Deutschlandticket go for mo.pla)
