Dunno if some dipshit will call me posting this FUD again, a mere week after the last time I said it. But once again: if you build your business on top of anything offered by Google in virtually any way, you are in "fool me seventeen times" territory here. No company has indicated its disdain for the developer ecosystem to the degree Google systematically does.

Everything that doesn't pull the revenue of Ads is eventually killed, and nothing pulls the revenue of Ads.

I trust this answers the question.

Tip: even if you’re only in Paris once in a while get a Navigo card. Machines to only recharge those have no queues!

7 countries now generate nearly all of their electricity from renewable energy sources. A further 40 countries generate >50% of the electricity they consume from renewables – including 11 European countries.

Data from Mark Jacobson at Stanford University.

@janrosenow Germany produced more than 50% of its electricity with renewables last year I think. Wondering why it’s not listed as such

Definite sanity saver.

Incredibly often, it seems that Safari fails to load a website. It happens both on my Mac and iPhone and has been happening for a long time. I think this has to do with my WiFi, but I fail to see anything unusual in my Ubiquiti setup.

Anyone seeing similar issues with Safari, or is this some issue in my Internet setup?

(Yes, I've tried disabling all extensions)

@simonbs you can install "mtr" via brew and then run sudo mtr 1.1.1.1 and see a combined ping and traceroute and see packet loss :)

The biggest problem I have with chargers like this (I have one) is that any stand who’s magnet is strong enough to hold the iPhone firmly, usually is not heavy enough to remove said phone from the charger without first using two hands to hold it down. Try taking your phone off its charging stand on your nightstand while you’re still half asleep and you’ll run into all kinds of trouble.

jmovs,
@jmovs@mastodon.social avatar

@gedeonm I can recommend this one - it used the native charging pucks and when you put on a thin layer (like I did on the left), it’s very very easy to get off

@gedeonm I think it translates to „foam rubber“ - in my experience with a caseless iPhone, 1mm is a good thickness

I think you'd make good money by making a great coffee grinder that automatically tamps the ground beans for those home baristas looking for a convenient and mess-free setup but who don't want the grinder built into their espresso machine, leaving them freedom to upgrade either.

jmovs,
@jmovs@mastodon.social avatar

@simonbs the tamping is the messy part for you? :) I solved that with a dosing funnel, then it’s pretty much mess free. :)

jmovs,
@jmovs@mastodon.social avatar

@simonbs this is my setup. Small grinder and small portafilter machine - with the dosing funnel, it’s pretty mess free for me so far. :)

image/jpeg

jmovs,
@jmovs@mastodon.social avatar

@simonbs yes, you can do that. Another way to reduce mess is to use a dosing cup (the niche grinder pioneered that) so you grind into a dosing cup, can out the portafilter on top and then rotate 180°. Also make sure that the portafilter is the right size for the amound of coffee you put in (there's different porta filter depths)

Considering splurging on my first espresso machine to get the fully automatic Jura Z10 that most seem to be getting great reviews. Anyone in here who has experience with it? I trust your people’s opinion much more than I trust the rest of the Internet 😃 https://us.jura.com/en/homeproducts/machines/Z10-Aluminium-White-NAA-15361

jmovs,
@jmovs@mastodon.social avatar

@simonbs hi Simon, I had fully automatic coffee makers for 20 years and recently switched to grinder + tiny portafilter. Can only recommend - coffee quality is so much better.

For fully automatic ones, I would always go with Saeco - they last usually forever. DeLonghi, Jura etc usually a bit less in my limited experience.

As a developer based in the EU, of course I want to be able to sign on to Apple's new business terms and access the hard-won benefits of the DMA (like external distribution).

But there’s no way I ever would with the specter of a CTF hanging over, even if I never build an app that hits 1M annual downloads.

@rileytestut tried to convince me to build something for AltStore, and I've had several huge Cydia-distributed projects in the past. But Apple's new business terms are currently a no-go

jmovs,
@jmovs@mastodon.social avatar

@stroughtonsmith @rileytestut can’t you have a separate developer account for those activities?
