Today #UAW4811 #UCLA rank and file are picketing loading docks again, and have been doing the work to coordinate with sibling unions to respect the picket line - sheetmetal workers local 105 is walking off, and roofer union working on Powell expected to follow shortly. Rank and file is doing the heavy lifting and coming with the strategy.

R&F is doing participatory and egalitarian organizing, allowing people to lead independently, making people feel like theyre a part of something. We're not really sure what admin caucus is doing, but I think the difference is summarized neatly by one group coordinating in an extremely active all-to-all groupchat and the other in a very sleepy announcement channel. Rank and file organizing works because people are smart and capable and brave and want to help, not be told what to do by a distant chain of command. A beautiful sight seeing this bottom up energy flourish and take over

Yes a deep fascist pattern - you cant neglect the sick joy and humor as a constitutive part of Nazi ideology and society either. The message is "look at who I am because of what I can do to you." Laughter in the face of out-group suffering is a kind of performative blutkitt: it is the glue that binds without any positive ideology, the only thing that exists between them is their shared, joyful hatred. Particularly with populist fascism, it is revenge for the shared grievance that the world laughs at them.

So I knew that cars make you lose your perception of the humanity of others, but I guess I was a little surprised at just how many people were fully ready to ram their car directly into my body as I was walking a picket line. "I will do a vehicular assault to avoid having to walk 10 extra minutes" is peak LA culture.

The unauthorized militant picket lines shut down parking structures all morning. The regular picket line is occupying Royce quad. Lots of ppl out and ppl setting up plans for following days. Good strike energy. Now just need to get my coworkers who missed the memo and think their science is more important than the rest of the world out here
