@enobacon@Karstan a thermal battery sounds fun but it's probably more practical to just heat your house a few extra degrees while you have free solar energy. If your house cools off super quick at night, focus on better insulation.
The most cynical thing about this kind of manipulative political tactic is that it pretends that cars haven’t been powerfully prioritized since the 1960s, and still are today. Relatively minor attempts to bring things closer to balance and provide more choice are framed as “anti-motorist.” As anyone who actually understands how cities work knows, this approach will hurt everyone, including drivers.
@enobacon@BrentToderian#Detroit chose the second option. Don't be like Detroit.
(There are many lovely things about Detroit, the infrastructure is not one of them)
how do you waterproof an xt60 connector without making it too much pain to take apart? I'm thinking 1.5-2 wraps of cut rubber innertube with tape and zip ties on each end, like a 2in bandage over the connector. #eBikes
@enobacon one school of thought is you don't waterproof them. The metal bullet contacts are surrounded by the plastic connector and I've heard they don't short even when submerged. And additional waterproofing can lead to moisture retention which can cause corrosion.
@enobacon You wouldn't need regen, just push power back onto the inductor grid as you move past the coils. The power would be transferred down the street to someone else who is in need of acceleration. Like leave a penny take a penny but for momentum.
So I've got an BBSHD that came with a lunacycle wolfpack 52V battery and XT90 connectors. I needed to fix the connector, so I bought a 10-pack of XT90 connectors and used a few of them.
I also have a TSDZ2 that came with a 48V generic hailong battery with bullet connectors. And now I have a 48V BBS02 that has an XT60 connector, and a 48V hailong battery on the way that has no connector.
I'm wondering if I should standardize on XT90 connectors, even though only the 52V system has them.
@Andres4NY I'm not sure XT60s are any easier than XT90s, I guess slightly less heat required but pretty much the same process. But yes, I think ideally it's the same battery cradle on each bike (and compatible battery cases)
Do I need a torque wrench #BikeTooter? My current method is to convert the Nm spec to in-lbs, measure the wrench and go for the feel of 40lb (or whatever that works out to.)
@enobacon just get one, if something isn't properly torqued it can work okay for a while and then loosen after riding or vibration, they aren't that expensive and ensure your bike doesn't fall apart.
@enobacon I've been real close to just buying a rear fender and using it in front for the extra length. And, looking at the photo, it does appear that they have used the same fender on both front and rear.
it's not too hot to ride an e-bike but it would be a lot cooler without all of the car exhaust and excess heat from their air conditioners blowing on me in the bike lane 🥵
@bastianallgeier In practice, an ICE car is only achieving 15% energy conversion when you factor in emission controls and drivability required in passenger vehicles.
