Sometimes the way people phrase things is so telling. For instance, telling women they should be "taking care of" their husband and children. Another adult doesn't need taken care of like a child, what you want is for women to be a Sex Mom.

@clayrivers @StillIRise1963 I remember talking about that with people some time ago.

Everyone was REALLY upset with me for asking "How long can you survive if your income stops right now?"

They hadn't thought of their income as an optional part of life, since they'd always had a job.

But they'd all be bankrupt within a month or two.

They didn't feel like they were that close to the edge and didn't like being told they were.

Like "The Puertorican cuarto sounds surprisingly similar to a guitarra portuguesa." or "Phorid fly larva eat ant brains and then the ant's head comes off!" or "Ottawa built a bridge which isn't winter-proof."

I could fib something, but why? The real thoughts are more interesting.

Meanwhile, in Portugal, the new ruling coalition proposed using military service as a sort of juvie, and the Portuguese military responded with with "No, fuck off." and "You have no respect for what we are."

Not fun to get told off by the military when you're trying to project a Tough Man image, but they "saved face" by claiming it was merely a thought experiment and they never intended to implement it for real.

Spoiler: They are lying.

It really is another aspect of systemic #ableism the way that media and caretakers have elevated the genuine challenges abled caretakers have into now being something that gets more attention than the needs of disabled people.

It really is remarkable how abled people can always make disability, inaccessibility, even systemic ableism all about themselves.

The cases where someone truly cannot do anything at all are quite rare.

Really wish people understood that losing one or more abilities doesn't mean all of them.

Parts of India and Bangladesh have wet bulb temps of 27C or more, while it's past the middle of the night, there.

30C at 85% relative humidity is not at all easy to deal with, and it'll be worse come sunrise.

Definitely dangerous heat.

I'm starting to get more and more angry, every time mass media uses the phrase "new normal" to describe one single year in a continuously escalating climate crisis.

Constantly implying "this is how it is" as if we sadly failed to avoid the consequences, but these are all of them.

People are being given a dangerously complacent message, which will leave them wholly unprepared.

For some reason, Dutch and German disagree about which water means which.

Dutch "zee" and German "See" sound almost identical, but in Dutch it means sea, and in German it means lake.

Dutch "meer' and German "Meer" also sound nearly identical, but in Dutch it means lake, and in German it means sea.

What is this nonsense?
