Today I tested some worst case scenarios, for purely scientific reasons of course.

1. Buying a paper ticket from a ticket office instead of an online ticket and promptly loosing it, but only noticing in the train during ticket checks. Probably threw it away with the pizza plate. Arriva staff couldn’t really sell me one on the train so I downloaded their app anyway and bought a technically incorrect one online. They were okay with it.

First order of business in Northern Ireland, very conveniently located across the bus station the ferry shuttle dropped us off.

The passage from Cairnryan was just wonderful! Perfect weather, first sunburn of the year, super smooth, great Stenaline ship, approach to Belfast harbor just 🥰 (only complaint could be that foot passengers have to wait to be bussed off the boat last so it’s a bit of a dragging end. From the whole boat it seemed to be not even 50 of us. What a shame.)

Unexpectedly, the Crown Liquor Saloon where I was planning to go anyway is right across Belfast’s bus station. Early afternoon beer is in order!

#BahnBubble Und wieder will mich die DB Lounge Köln mit Interrail Ticket und Status nicht in die Lounge lassen. Nach Diskussion, ausnahmsweise nur heute!!!! Entgegen anderer Info vom DB Social Team.
Ich hoffe wirklich, dass das Urteil von neulich die ganze Zugangschose noch mal durcheinander würfelt. Nicht, dass ich in der Provinz viel davon hätte, aber aus Prinzip.

Fourth to last train of the day, and the nicest one today – my Interrail pass of summer 23 is coming to an end.
On the traditionally crappy route from Basel to Saarbrücken, it’s the traditional vermicelli pastry, beer and water from Basel SNCF.

With additional tickets and Deutschlandticket, I have been traveling since 22 August. More trips coming up in the next three weeks but then I think I gotta give the Deuter Trail 24 a bit of rest 😑

How very quaint! You get a handwritten train ticket when you book Sail & Rail from Irland to Britain.

Besides that, walking to the port was not a great idea. Unsurprisingly, they make it quite hard for foot passengers who don’t want to take a taxi (and who don’t have a Transport for Ireland travel card). An incredibly car-centric country 🇮🇪 #BadFarth

In 98,5% of cases vocal/public complaints about #Interrail are complaints about Spain and, to a lesser extend, France, Eurostar or Thalys. (Balkan situation no surprise to anyone).

Should Spain just be taken out of the scheme? Should Eurail display a sales warning?

I’m sitting in a train ~compartment (small open space) with 10 seats. For 4 hours already we are going through extremely scenic scenery. 3/4 have much better seats than me, scenery wise. Especially the young lady opposite of me. None of them has been looking out of the window just for a tiny bit!!!! While I can’t even listen to podcast because the view ask for my full attention. I have severe Ausblickneid here you Banausen!!!!
