People keep submitting this sort of post like it’s unexpected.
They think Lemmy can grow into a legitimate platform, but the one with millions of users and backed by one of the largest companies on the planet, which already runs social media platforms, is doomed…
Oof I think this service is only worth it if you have a family plan and everyone helping. That is how I personally make it reasonable in terms of pricing.
Would be great if I could just pay for no ads YT without YT music.
In fairness, the amount of YT that I watch on TV/iPhone makes it worth the cost, but any increases and I’ll probably just cancel and watch less YT, which isn’t a bad thing.
Or maybe just look at getting one of those Turkish subscriptions for like £2/month
In fairness, it’s not just 50 cents per day, it’s yet another streaming service that’s increasing prices.
And it’s all well and good saying “you don’t have to buy it”, but these streaming companies are starting to get aggressive with squeezing money out of people.
Google in particular is trying to crack down on ad blockers, and trying to force more ads at the same time.
I cancelled Netflix last month and had only kept it that long for family members.
After cancelling, I got a welcome back email because they’re apparently happy to let anyone logged in reactivate the subscription…
So I contacted them again to cancel, get a refund and ask what happened.
Then I decided I wanted to remove my card details from the account, but apparently you can only do that by contacting support…
So they think it’s okay to let anyone restart the subscription from a TV without entering a password, but they’ll make you contact support to remove card details…

I guess I’m missing something, but I don’t understand buying a MS hardware product and then installing Linux, surely just buy a different product in the first place?
Same with people buying Google Pixel’s and then removing the stock Android. Isn’t the Pixel’s hardware rubbish, and the only reason to buy it the software?
I’m pro Linux, just not seeing the point of giving money to these companies and then installing Linux… I think some people do it with the Pixel as a protest, which makes little sense when they’ve given money to the company :/
Fair enough, I just thought there would be more practical options for price/performance/usability, but I guess touchscreen laptops are a bit of a niche still.
So I’m getting a promotion soon (yay!), moving up from just a line cook to sous-chef and I’ve only been with this company for a few months. Thing is that I’m still quite young (mid twenties) and will be the direct supervisor of some people a fair bit older than I am. Think 10-20 years older. It might just still be a bit of...
Well there can be a genuine shortage of people able to do a job, but that’s likely companies fault for not investing in training people to do the job in the first place.
She has genuine mental health issues, and has previously suffered a traumatic brain injury.
People tend to ignore these obvious answers when talking about her or someone like Kanye. They’re genuinely mentally ill people who need help, and it’s in part the media’s fault for pushing these stories and goading them on.

Its not my job to support the developers and keep their studios afloat its their job by making good games that are actually worth their price tag.
That’s fine and all, but it goes both ways. If you’re gonna wait years to maybe buy their game, then they’re not going to cater to what you want.
There’s a middle ground imo. If I love a certain type of game, I’m gonna buy it relatively new to show my support. If you don’t do that, then you’re essentially a bottom of the barrel afterthought that the market simply won’t cater to.
Not that I'm particularly against that - quite the opposite, in fact. But I'm wondering if anyone sees, or had seen a path to social and climate recovery/progress that could occur without first eradicating the class of people who most enjoy the present status quo.
I’m gonna get shit for it, but gaming on Linux really isn’t great imo.
My experience is that it’s a pain in the arse to get anything running, performance is worse, vsync is fucked, no HDR, doesn’t work with Hue Sync, and then a hundred other miscellaneous problems.
Proton is an incredible achievement from a technical standpoint, and if people are happy to put up with issues to protect their privacy then good on them, but I think people oversell how good the actual Linux gaming experience is.
P.S. I don’t need suggestions on how to fix the issues I listed. I’m more than able to resolve them if I had the time, I just don’t want to have those problems to start with.
Government: “Everyone should take up cycling to stay healthy and reduce emissions”
Also government: “You will cycle in the gutter. We will not implement any cycle lanes with divides to protect you; instead, you’ll get some road markings that drivers ignore and occasionally disappear, usually at the section of road that’s most dangerous”
I’ve taken up cycling as a hobby recently, but there’s no way in hell I’m risking my life on a commute when drivers are so reckless, and the government doesn’t take action to protect cyclists.
Every time I venture onto twitter all I see is absolute toxicity. My guilty habit is profile surfing some of these utter looneys, and it’s just incredible how bitter some of the people can be.
I saw one guy who spends his day responding to NBA tweets with shit like “0 rings” to start arguments, and just generally being an arsehole in any way possible…
