My new year resolution is to move 5 passwords every day from 1Password to the iOS password manager.

linuxct,
@linuxct@androiddev.social avatar

@Migueldeicaza What, they don’t let you export passwords? I migrated my entire Google account’s password list to iOS in a few clicks in a day

Y'all ever get some seemingly random devices trying to do incomprehensible things in your Crashlytics?

Today I discovered a brand called XiaoPaiTech, that seemingly sells IoT cameras, and presumably some of them run Android, because someone is trying to use the APKMirror Installer in one of them. Why? Just, why?!

linuxct,
@linuxct@androiddev.social avatar

Of course the APKMirror Installer crashes, the device lacks a way to grant permissions for applications through the OS framework. For sure it has to be related to the fact that it runs a limited version of Android since, you know, it runs on a IoT camera?!

@nixCraft Does my username give any hints about that? :)

hexer_class, to random

The worst part of this Unity thing is devs feeling pressure to abandon their projects which they put their love and hard work into, just because some people made a poor decision in order to make more money or whatever. I don't think that's fair, and I don't think anyone would blame you if you can and decide to stick with Unity, at least until you're done with your current projects and only then maybe you consider learning a new engine.

linuxct,
@linuxct@androiddev.social avatar

@hexer_class True, it’s what happens when only a few rule the market. Devs are free to move to Godot and other engines as well though

I wanted to screen record Stories on Android, but the phone doesn't support that feature and only free sketchy apps exist, so I rigged up a mount and ended up making this https://mastodon.social/@pixelfed/111044678886486915

It's not perfect, but that's what gives it character 😂

linuxct,
@linuxct@androiddev.social avatar

@dansup this is so based. Btw I’m pretty sure that phone supports screen recording through adb shell screenrecord https://adbshell.com/commands/adb-shell-screenrecord

The Play Integrity API will soon give developers a way to evaluate the "account activity" of a user. This new signal will help app and game developers detect "potentially risky and fraudulent traffic".

(Although the details of this EAP are apparently supposed to be confidential, the page documenting it all is just ... publicly available. @linuxct for the heads up!])

Play Integrity API: Account activity early access program (EAP): https://developer.android.com/google/play/integrity/account-activity

linuxct,
@linuxct@androiddev.social avatar

@blogdiva @MishaalRahman Quoting the initial docs I found, the info they gather should be based off “the presence and volume of Play Store activity”, not the rest of the Google apps’ check-ins you mention

pancake, to random

So if Matrix is not the answer.. WHAT SHOULD WE DO??!? 😱 guess xmpp has been always the answer but we refused to accept it because of xml.

linuxct,
@linuxct@androiddev.social avatar

@pancake I personally believe that because of the fact the keys are not transferrable between clients unless both of them are online and active, it makes it extra difficult to use the platform. I don’t know how many times I’ve lost my decryption keys because of clearing my browser cache + changing ROMs on my Android phone. The fact that their security model prevents the user from securely (i.e., symmetrically encrypted) exporting and reimporting said keys is to blame.

I just spent like ~3h on reversing the Starfield watch OTA and firmware, getting to the binary payload. Anyone interested on what I did?

I also made a bunch of scripts along the way that could be used for automation of reaching to the binary payload in newer updates

linuxct,

@dansup @dansup I actually just noticed that on the photo you posted about the feature on Pixelfed, there was a button to pick from the camera roll, but on the current TestFlight build it’s not there for me. Maybe I did something wrong?

How to boil water?

Pre AI Internet Search:

"Put water in pan. Place the pan under high heat. Remove when larger bubbles begin to continuously erupt in the water."

Post AI Internet Search:

"Since the beginning of time, people have wondered how to boil water. It is an interesting question that will be answered below.

Table of Contents:

  1. Reasons to boil water.
  2. Famous people who have boiled water.
  3. A brief history of thermodynamics.
  4. Five things you didn't know about Roger Waters."

@tflynn I don’t fully agree. Places like WikiHow have been following this format since well before the AI search format became widely available/adopted

@askonomm Why did you take down the Invobi web app? Quite sad to see such a good project become a macOS-exclusive app...

I've decided to go with neither of the two app logo options I asked you to vote on in [1]

Y'all made several good points, and those two options will be available to use but I decided to go with an app icon that is simple and not similar to IG's icon as the default.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Firefox for Android is getting desktop extensions support 🎉

Developers should prepare to get their extensions ready for Android. "Definite launch date" will be announced in "early September" but it's "safe to expect a roll-out before the year's end."

@corbin @MishaalRahman Thing is, the previous Firefox for Android was… inefficient and slow. This one feels okay when put side by side with Chromium’s offering.
