Some plants are trickier to water than others :) Also, it needs a re-potting and better light setup (it looks like some parts are getting too much light and others too little). This is a Sedum Morganianum aka Donkey or Burro's Tail. In the old location it was hanging from a hook and now it's just kind of draped over a shelf. When the leaves fall off as they do with each move and watering I just drop them back into the pot.

@plants The tray is a curved serving tray for what looks like banquets or catering. I got it at a thrift store for about 1€ and it works great for watering.

Booked my work flights a couple weeks ago and had my seats selected. Go to check in for my flight and I don't have a seat selection. Managed to get decent seats for the trip out to work (naturally I had to pay extra for them) but I'll have to ride in the middle row for the whole five hour flight home. Real awesome for a tall dude in cattle class. I love air travel.

@hobbsc ugh. I think I'll print out my seating confirmation before my next flight to avoid something like that. I've had that happen with the train a few times but worst case with the train you end up sitting on the floor. Can't really do that on a plane.

Doing some spring pruning today. I usually like to let the plants grow the way they want, but in this case (and with some other plants I'll be trimming) they get too unbalanced and can topple over or stem weakening. This Pachyphytum Oviferum branched and offset/cloned a new smaller plant, and then grew sideways.
It was really cute and I wanted to leave it like this but the head of the original plant was too heavy to support over time.

@plants I put cinnamon on the cuts and ends of the leaves that I pulled to help heal them as it's an antifungal, then put everything in a lower-light area where it will stay for a few days. After it's healed over I'll plant the original head in a new pot and not water it for a while until it has grown new roots.

I have an Android (and Nokia/HMD) question. After updating to Android 14 my Nokia G42 5G lost AAC codec over Bluetooth support, which downgraded some of my headphones as they are falling back to SBC (more noticeable on some headphones than others and these are without aptX* support, which is still working fine). Developer Options doesn't change it. Has anyone else seen this? I already factory defaulted the phone and recently updated to the April 2024 patch with no change.

There doesn't seem to be an answer for this (I still looked around a lot) but this issue affected my Bose NC 700 headphones a lot (using SBC with the Nokia paired to that headphone dropped the audio quality noticeably). I'm planning on using the 700s while traveling soon as they have the best noise canceling of what I have. Anyway- a couple of inelegant workarounds seem to be:
wired directly to the phone (NC still works with an analog connection) -or- cable connected to a FiiO Bluetooth clip.

which will make it quasi-wireless but can use a much shorter cable if I wear the clip on a shirt or jacket collar. It's receiving aptX-HD from the phone and cabling that with the headphones sounds pretty okay.

I can also use an older phone with AAC over Bluetooth support as a dedicated music player but when I am traveling I don't like to juggle phones around much unless I have to.

As an update, there is more going on with the Nokia than just that (audio via speaker is inconsistently working). I don't think there is anything wrong with the hardware, but more that it didn't agree with the Android 14 upgrades. I'm replacing it before traveling but after I'm back I will see if I can force downgrade/re-image it back to Android 13 (reset via the settings menu on 14 doesn't fix things). Looking around quickly I don't see a LineageOS ROM for that model or a factory image.

The cool thing about this phone is that there is hardware replacement support via iFixit (and that was one of the reasons I went with this one) but what would really be helpful also is a ROM archive of releases. https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Nokia_G42_5G

Hey folks! This cactus has got a bit out of hand. What can I do?

I’m thinking of cutting off the most disobedient column and replanting it. I know I need to let the cutting callus - anything else I should know? Will the main plant likely be ok?

@claireasher @Transflux I haven't trimmed my cactus yet but with other succulents I usually put cinnamon on the cuts to prevent fungus from taking over, and give them a few days in a shaded spot (main plant and cutting). When the cutting is fully healed then I put it in a new pot and let it re-root there.

We need to STOP running DOOM on new things
and START putting new things into DOOM.

For example, today I added micro-transactions to the original game. Any time you pick up an item, the game freezes until you make a payment.

opening DOOM from the command line. start a new game. immediately walk to health item. when the character touches it, the game freezes and a QR code pops up. I scan the qr code with my phone and a credit card payment UI is displayed. I enter fake credit card details, hit submit. A second later the web page on the phone says "Payment Complete" and the game on the computer resumes.

@ken_fallon @mfeilner it worked pretty well and it was fun wearing these like that for a bit though when I moved my head they were sliding off. Surprisingly, neither the Bluetooth clip nor the velcro straps got tangled in my hair. :D
