I know that people say wayland is the future and nobody cares about X yada yada, but it is pretty frustrating when wayland is broken for a whole bunch of things.

It's like a trend, similar to flatpak, the devs don't care so it doesn't get done but simultaneously you have to 'embrace' it even though it degrades your experience.

:'(

@ljs@social.kernel.org avatar

I mean I feel zero entitlement from open source, in fact I do the opposite, I contribute so it's not like that.

It's not even that things are broken in wayland, sure it's (relative to X) new and of course dealing with the likes of nvidia and tons of legacy code and yada yada can't be fun.

But it's that self-righteous, proselytising tone speaking down to you about why it is the Holy Choice that gets me. Dude, it breaks my shit ok? Shut up.

I made a bunch of kernel scripts to make life easier working with configuring/building/running a kernel in qemu etc.

They're a bit arch-specific and rough but in case anybody might find them useful :)

It takes a certain type of person who, when you pull forward to park in a space, indicating the whole time, drives in and takes it.

A certain kind of cunt who one day will do that to a nutter and have a bad outcome.

Luckily I'm British so I just tutted under my breath and found another spot

Feel a lot better today but I think I'm going to take it easy as I don't want this shit to come back.

Back on usual gym routine from tmr come what may...

As interesting a technology as bpf is, I really do worry that some aspects of it are just a way of working around the GPL and exfiltrating things from the kernel.

It is potentially (very!) useful to be able to hook into things, but when you get to the point of actually changing kernel behaviour will it not be tempting for companies to implement 'secret sauce' they don't have to contribute back?

@lisyarus I still find rust appealing as a language but there's people in the community who really really put you off.

Also I secretly still love C (not so secretly)

All I want is somebody to invent a kind of time compression machine where I can sleep for 12 hours and the clocks don't change.

IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK??

Well, it was a fun experience to run down a rented ' battery in an hour while being parked, just by the entertainment system. Then the car is dead.

Then had to wait another hour to someone come out and have enough battery to start the engine and begin charging again when on the move...

Lessons learned, hybrids work differently? Or just do not rent a car (it would have been cheaper taking taxi back and forth).

ljs,
@ljs@social.kernel.org avatar

@imrehg what? That's just strange. I own a hybrid (corolla), never had anything even approaching that happen, it 'just works'.

Though, if a hybrid hasn't been used for a LONG time, and I mean a looong time, then it can run down and it's a real problem. Entertainment system shouldn't be using the high voltage battery though...

So I actually suspect this is more that their 12V is screwed in that car (it's separate from the high voltage hybrid pack) and they as a rental company couldn't be bothered to replace it.

A busted 12V battery can be charged but conk out anyway as it can't hold the charge.

ljs,
@ljs@social.kernel.org avatar

@imrehg I mean I can't say for sure there's some fancy-dancy thing that distributes power between the high voltage/low voltage bits but I suspect there isn't (and was told by the toyota dealership they are separate).

But yeah, TL;DR: rental company don't care about their cars.

It is still surprising to hear that a prius of all cars had an issue! Known to be tanks. But I guess even they have their limits...

@ndrei @imrehg which one? I've had my eye on the KIA EV6 for some time now...

@ndrei @imrehg mmmmmm tasty

@imrehg @ndrei Bro I'm a man's man (as you know) so I don't give cars names.

It's just 'the car' or 'the corolla' or sometimes 'THE BEAST'

Wrestled with this bad boy 24kg kettlebell in gym yest morn.

I have a long way to go on my (oh god) weight loss/health/fitness 'journey', but the gym routine is sacrosanct and doing me a world of good!

Being in that inbetween state where you're obviously super fat and anybody glancing at you would either not believe you or laugh at the fact you go to the gym 4 times a week is a WEIRD place to be man.

Luckily I don't base any of this on 'motivation' rather just having a set routine that I always do.

I bet you went through a similar phase at some point @cwayne ?

I remember last time I lost a lot of weight weirdly people massively upped the fat jokes, it's like you fighting it causes people to push back on you more it's all just odd stuff

@timnitGebru This is a direct result of Sam Altman and people like him lying about the capabilities of LLMs for financial gain.

The fact the bulk of tech + the media seem oblivious to this makes them just as culpable.

Expect many more harms like this. Yay. Just what the world needed, more sources of total post-truth bullshit...
