Every time the timer notification sound starts on my phone, I hear in my head an orchestra that never arrives. So I added it myself in this (very little serious) music video! I had to pass these summer vacations somehow, after all...

I finally found a working copy of ultra obscure Italian point and click adventure Pompei AD 79 (1996) which, as you might infer from the title, takes place during the final days of the city and during ancient Rome times.
Should I bring it on Twitch next Friday and translate it on the go? It is also fully voiced, which was a rarity for the time.

Inspiration is a myth. I don't believe in it anymore.

Don't get trapped by it. Don't feel guilty about not being productive while you sit and wait for it to magically strike.

Know what inspiration is? It's allowing yourself the time to dedicate to creating. It's sitting down with the mindset of working on your art, your music, your writing, your cooking, your whatever.

Allow yourself the time, put yourself in the moment, and go make something!

lminiero,
@lminiero@fosstodon.org avatar

@killyourfm I've always seen inspiration as something akin to tuning to a radio: when inspiration strikes me, it's indeed like I ended up by accident on some psychic radio waves where I can hear clearly something that didn't exist in my mind before, so something I just have to remember and write down. I don't know I'll ever figure out if the music I've composed actually came from me, or from some collective subconscious thingie somewhere

@danyork 5k is really not that big of a deal (there were people with strollers and dogs too) but I only started running again last month, and really couldn't do anything more than that...

lminiero,
@lminiero@fosstodon.org avatar

@danyork yes, I stopped for many years too and rebooting was quite the challenge! Deciding to do that when in Italy there were 35°C didn't help either 😂 But it looks like the training worked, because these past few weeks I never got beyond 3km and instead today I did it all without stopping, and in about ~29m which surprised me (I expected it would take me much longer than that)

lminiero,
@lminiero@fosstodon.org avatar

@danyork I've checked the tracker app for the marathon event, and apparently there's people that did it in 16 minutes!! Not sure if they were on a scooter 😂

My visual novel is indeed shaping up pretty nicely.

lminiero,
@lminiero@fosstodon.org avatar

@damianogerli is that Ren'py? The UI looks familiar!

lminiero,
@lminiero@fosstodon.org avatar

@damianogerli IMHO Unity (or any other engine) would be overkill for a VN: Ren'py is absolutely up to the task, and I've seen it do things quite complex too!

lminiero,
@lminiero@fosstodon.org avatar

@damianogerli I'm afraid I can't help there, since I'm pretty much in the same situation 😂 I've been working on my own open source point and click adventure game engine, and for the tiny demo I'm using to validate the features I've had to rely on the kindness of strangers (e.g., itch.io assets). While I'd like to learn how to draw, that's an art that can take years to learn, let alone master...

Hot take time?

I think among all the Lucasarts adventures from the 90s, Day of the Tentacle has always been my least favorite.
Sure, perhaps the fact that I did not play it until years after release played a part but I never really liked the humour, the obtuse puzzles, the problems that the chron-o-john item swapping created nor the characters or story.
I did like the dubbing though.
I revisited it several times after my first playthrough, most recently a couple of years ago, nothing changed.

lminiero,
@lminiero@fosstodon.org avatar

@damianogerli mine would be Sam & Max for the same reason: I only played it a few months ago, so it didn't 100% click with me!

In Italy, Evil Dead was originally distributed under the title "La Casa" (The House), which then got a slew of unofficial sequels (La Casa 3, La Casa 5 even up to seven!) which had little to do with the original.

lminiero,
@lminiero@fosstodon.org avatar

@damianogerli considering Italy distributed "Home Alone" as "Mamma ho perso l'aereo" (Mommy, I missed the plane!), they could have done worse than "La Casa"! 😂 At least they didn't distribute "Jurassic Park" as "Mamma mi è scappato il dinosauro"! (Mommy my dinosaur ran away!)

I recently started working on a plugin mechanism for @kiavc, my open source point and click adventure game engine. This blog post goes through what I did so far, showing some examples too. I also go in detail on my Kamailio World KIAVC+SIP+RealTimeText demo, which was indeed implemented using this mechanism, so if you're curious how that worked, you'll find that here. Feedback welcome!

Despite his very young age, Matteo Mancuso is one of the most promising (if not best) guitar players on the music scene. Waiting for his new album to come out (July!), he just released a single, and as a fun challenge he asked his fans to play a solo on it. I'm 1/1000000th the player he is, but I tried my best, and this is the result: I hope it didn't come out too bad 😂

Me playing a solo on the backing track Matteo Mancuso provided as a challenge

I'm loving this review bombing on Dying Light 2 because it was not dubbed in Italian.
"Not having Italian dubbing is discriminatory", also all games must have Italian because "Rinascimento taught everyone how to speak and all the major people in art and philosophy come from Italy" and "the absence of Italian language is a heavy offence to Italian culture and people".
Jesus Christ, Italians, get a grip.

@lminiero@fosstodon.org avatar

@damianogerli we're the absolute laziest people on the face of the earth... most Italian people don't even know what the actual voice of non-Italian actors sounds like, FFS!
