20 years after the first themes came to me, I finally did it... My 27 minutes rock opera song on Cleopatra is now done! It's an appetizer to my upcoming "Musae" album, where it will be one of the tracks: in this EP I decided to split it in different parts for easier listening.

@ambergrey to be honest I think I never changed the tuning of my guitar, except maybe the very rare occasion when I went drop D for some specific heavier song. I'm just too used to the standard tuning (with its advantages and its challenges) to feel comfortable learning new fingerings and positions that are pretty much muscular memory for me by now. I've struggled with the ukulele for the same reason 😂

@ambergrey oh piano is a different beast... I took piano lessons for a while and still couldn't do it! 😅 Too hard for me to have different brains in the two hands, which is something that's much easier to go around on guitar instead. If you can play both I'm really envious!

Today we give the possibility of customizing our characters in whatever vaguely-RPG influenced title for granted.
In 1984, that possibility was basically absent from non-RPG titles. Skool Daze is an interesting, if rare, exception. The 1984 Spectrum (and C64) title gave players the possibilty of re-naming all the major characters in the game (teachers, the nerd, the bully, etc), thus giving many a first glimpse of immersion...

@damianogerli as a kid, I remember loving the times I bumped into a game that would apparently give me more freedom than all other games did. On my MSX, for instance, games like Gunfright or Jack the Nipper were basically old school "open world" sandbox games in a handful of bytes!

@killyourfm that's amazing! My iPod classic is long gone, unfortunately, disk died... it's why I bought a Fiio X1 at the time (8 years ago maybe?), which recently died too though, so I'm on a HiFi Walker at the moment and loving it 😁

This is the first screen of the English demo for Ghostbusters: the Adventure Game. Apparently an Italian team is asking for money (!) on KS for this crude AGS point and click title.
Not only the project doesn't have the rights (obviously) but also clearly doesn't have someone who speaks decent English and can help them.

@damianogerli the aesthetics seem off too: it's supposedly a pixel art game, but there are resources that are rendered at a much higher resolution (e.g., the text in your previous screenshot, or the scaled characters in this one)

@damianogerli to my knowledge, KS only gives the actual money if/once the project reaches the goal at the end, so maybe until that happens they technically didn't receive any money for this yet? But I realize that's semantics of course, and I'm not a lawyer 😄

@damianogerli yep, I was checking the comments on their KS and there's the same responses about them working on it, and that was 20 days ago. Even if that's true, licensing discussions can last forever, so I don't see how they expected that to be done before the end of the campaign

One of the most exciting moments of my entire life... I finally got to meet in person Kazuhiko Nishi, the creator of the MSX, the home computer that as a kid completely changed me and got me into programming and computers. I wouldn't be the person and professional I am today without him and what he worked on!

PS: I spoke to him in Japanese (or tried to) and to be honest he didn't look very impressed 😂 But I was over the moon anyway just because I was there to do that!

I tried a bit of Flashback 2 last night and... woof. Controls are not remappable and don't make sense (reloading the gun doesn't work unless you're USING it), there is no jump mechanic (you press A to interact with ledges), it runs terribly on my PC (where Assassin's Creed Mirage runs okay), some of the avatars look at least partially AI generated, animations are bugged, on Deck it just refuses to run decently.
Microids is on a streak of releasing games that are just not ready, huh?

@fedora FWIW I've been using Fedora to write and record music for a few years, now, and I love it! Same desktop that I use for work and personal stuff, I use for music too. All SW I needed was either available out of the box as part of the main repos, or one external repo away (ycollet/audinux mostly)
