@nixCraft las time a UK watchdog tried to put Microsoft in its place it was bullied by Microsoft and politicians to review its position (CMA during the Activision acquisition). Europe didnโ€™t even care and just let Microsoft do its thing.

I've got some news for Microsoft about how domestic abuse works.

@evacide Microsoft always comes up with the best arguments to make people switch to MacOS or Linux.

You see, was a shitshow this year because of the inclusion of a genocidal state in the contest, but I think we can say did deserve his victory. Not only does his act sound amazing but the message behind it is powerful and of utmost necessity currently.

New Arm-powered Surface Pro and Surface Laptop aim directly at Apple Silicon Macs

Microsoft's first "Copilot+ PCs" aim for the MacBook Air; neither is fanless.

@kaffeeringe @arstechnica what responsability? Has Microsoft ever shown any interest in being responsible?

As a European I can assure you that is for many Europeans the most political thing they do all year.

Itโ€™s a proxy for many a historical rivalry and friendship between countries; and also always reflects current events.

The claim itโ€™s โ€œapoliticalโ€ is laughable.

The implosion theyโ€™re experiencing is their own fault.

ln0,
@ln0@mastodon.social avatar

@thomasfuchs Absolutely. I mean keeping Israel in the competition is in itself a political statement.

@n3wjack @thomasfuchs I can see Israel winning, the world is a pretty weird place right now.

It gets better. It looks like the disqualification of the Dutch artist in Eurovision is because he repeatedly expressed he didnโ€™t want to be filmed but a camera operator kept filming him anyway, which resulted in him making a โ€œthreatening gestureโ€ towards her. There was never physical contactโ€ฆ if only Joost was a supporter of a genocide, maybe he would have been allowed to stay. No, there won't be a paperclip apocalypse.

But we want to ensure any risk from AI is accounted for. And give all citizens a safe chance to make the most of it.

We welcome the agreement reached by the Council and the European Parliament on our proposal to set clear rules for AI.

It defines four levels of risk, bans unacceptable risk applications, and reduces administrative and financial burdens for businesses.

@EU_Commission Once again evidence that regulators either don't understand tech or let themselves lobby by the companies they should regulate. Chatbots and all the LLM crap should fall under the High Risk Category. These technologies have the capacity to influence and manipulate society by providing biased and inaccurate information. They are the AI models that currently pose the biggest danger to our society. Stronger regulation is needed, NOW, on these models before it is too late.
