Learning with the help of mastodon community is so much fun than trying to learn everything by myself. This is something that came up in a conversation with a friend of mine: I told him that sometimes it is frustrating to learn electronics because none of my friends is skilled in the subject, and something that could be easily resolved/answered with a quick chat becomes this big demotivating wall instead.

Dreamcast fixed! Turns out the culprit was a stupid thing. Last year I borrowed the noctua 5v fan from the Dreamcast to use on my Orange Pi 5 and never put another fan back. After spending a lot of time trying to debug this weird issue, changed the PSU to a PicoPSU, changed the gdemu for the optical drive. It would always turn off a few seconds after boot. Apparently the DC has a safety shutdown in case it won’t detect the fan is working 🤦‍♂️

So here is my idea for a prototype on making a wired keyboard into a wireless one. I have 2 esp32-s3 dev boards that support usb-otg, I’m gonna put them to talk to each other via esp-now. So I need to write 3 parts of code: receiving keystrokes via usb, transmit the keystrokes via esp-now, send the keystrokes via usb to the computer. I have no idea if this is going to work or if the latency will be too much, but I’m gonna have fun anyway!

I need help from hardware people. I want to start this diy project of converting a wired keyboard into wireless. (not bluetooth) I was thinking of using 2 esp32-s2 modules, one on the receiver side and one on the keyboard side, having them talk through ESP-NOW protocol for low latency. Am I tripping? Is there a simpler way to achieve this? Please help! Boost this toot to your hardware friends!

Eu uso um app de mastodon no meu celular (e às vezes no tablet e no computador), e esta semana resolvi experimentar outro, que parecia promissor, e tinha a vantagem de ser open source.

Meus testes do app estavam indo bem (não 100%, mas bem), mas cometi o erro de seguir o perfil do autor desse outro app, achando que ele falaria sobre sua criação.

Na manhã de hoje, apareceram pra mim 2 posts dele. O que ele está fazendo neles? Criticando opções ou implementações feitas no outro app.

I’m organizing my computer stuff and saw this network card and usb floppy disk drive that I use on my IBM pentium 2 laptop. Cool stuff! I have an internal dial up network that I can still use to connect old stuff to the internet. Nothing beats that modem buzzing when connecting 🤣
