And an outspoken apocalypse doomsday prepper. Definitely the kind of ideals we want in unilateral control of nuclear power plants. This guy can’t fuck off sooner and any entity that would back his enterprise is either fucking stupid or blinded by greed.
Exactly. My concern is the lurid and sexual details will only serve to undermine the seriousness of the law he broke. As long as these gross but legal details are making headlines, the less coverage his actual crime gets, which his team will gladly accept.
Neurons undergo physical change in their interconnectivity. New connections (synapses) are created, strengthened, and lost over time. We don’t have circuits that can do that.

Day 12. Just want to say thank you for all you do. This community really is amazing. I don’t really know what my long-term goals are. I just know that the way I had been drinking up until about two weeks ago was leading to worse and worse outcomes and I needed to take a step back. Feeling pretty good. The anxiety of life in general is all still there but at least it isn’t compounded by a toxic cloud of guilt and shame. I have a job interview today. Wish me luck!
Went really well I think, thanks! Trying not to get my hopes up too much, but felt really good. Bonded over some shared interests and felt like I had the headspace to do some proper preparation and clear my mind. Earned myself an extra coke zero after that :)
I love all the ritualized behaviour, secret meanings and unexpected taboos - standing up when someone of higher status stands, elaborate rules for serving and eating, tapping the table to thank the server, never refuse a toast from a superior, stuff like that....
Depends on the restaurant. While not rude, a wave is often unnecessary in finer dining. Busy sports bar, sure. But most good servers will be scanning fairly constantly. Simple eye-contact is usually enough.
I do this the manual way. Set alarm half-an-hour early for coffee, drink it and go back to sleep. Wake up moderately more awake 45 minutes later. Doesnt always work. 4/10
I’m of the view that this is a semantic question where we have a word, “pile”, that describes a general amount but doesn’t have a specified quantity to it, and so the only way we can determine the amount of units required to constitute a pile at the bare minimum, is through public consensus on the most commonly shared...
I understand “pile” more as an orientation than an amount. You could have a million grains of sand all in a row and I’d call it something like a “line” of sand rather than a “pile”. To that end I’d say the minimum would maybe be 4 grains arranged in a triangular pyramid?
This is strangely relevant for me. Been trying to fix my expensive Sonicare for a few weeks now. Finally gave up and bought the cheapest knock-off. Left me with a bad taste…
it seems a better idea not to wipe the MacBook Pro, Core i5, 2.8 GHz (I5-4308U), model A1502 (EMC 2875) but to partition the drive and install a linux based os on it....
I’ve been working through this on my old 2012 Mac Pro. My issue has been my graphics card. In that era any non-mac graphics card won’t give you the boot-screen you need to choose which OS to use, or even to choose a USB boot for installing the Linux os. I got Refind (a super light bootloader) to work with a bit of extra tooling. You can also use opencore, but that is more challenging and makes a lot more changes.
Same. Just make it so Tiktok cannot advertise to American users or monetize American views. Start with that and wait for another non-ccp app to take that market.
Yeah that is a good question. It is meant to tax strictly the value of the land. So undeveloped rural land will be taxed very low, vs say undeveloped urban land. The idea is to incentivize productive land use of more valuable land so that as the value of the land goes up, it becomes untenable not to put it to use.
It would still work with a heavily regulated market. And in my opinion would need to be paired with zoning regulations and environmental policy. For example a stretch of wilderness that happens to be on top of a vein of coal would have the same value and tax as the same land without the coal if regulations prevent coal mining, adjusting incentives away from the most harmful uses.
Good point about people speaking ‘highly about some obscure 19th or 20th century political philosophy’ ringing certain alarm bells. I certainly share your skepticism. I wouldn’t call myself a ‘Goergist’. I do think LVT is worth looking into when trying to solve land-hoarding and wealthy entities treating property as an investment portfolio at the expense of families in need of homes.

Why can't people make ai's by making a neuron sim and then scaling it up with a supercomputer to the point where it has a humans number of neurons and then raise it like a human?
I know current learning models work a little like neurons but why not just make a sim that works exactly like how we understand neurons work
