Made myself a lavender iced latte! We've moved right into iced latte weather :)

Urg. The various beeping construction vehicles have arrived. Beep beep. Idle idle.

The cat yelled at me, I thought at first he was complaining I was right outside and should be inside with him, but then I set up a chair inside in front of the door for him. Now he's happily looking outside and hanging out with me while safely being inside and I still get to be outside :)

mariellequinton,

Wants to look outside. Does not want to be outside.

I went for the a walk so I had to move the chair to lock the door, but the cat was waiting at the door for me when I got back to put his chair back.

It's very nice out. I recommend a walk. I had to go back home to get a hat with a brim. Sunglasses were not cutting it.

Why aren’t doctors direct employees of the government? Am I missing something? Was that lobbying to protect income potential? How did we socialize health care without employing the people who deliver it?

mariellequinton,
@mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

@human3500 @geekingirl I think the problem is that we have them running a private business. I think we should move towards clinics run by the government like hospitals, so the doctors and all the staff are just clinic employees. So doctors just have to be doctors and not small business owners and employers. That would mean less paperwork for doctors while not having private companies sucking money out of the system (Appletree etc)

    @grivettcarnac Presumably they don't make women wear ties so making men wear them would be discriminatory.

    mariellequinton,
    @mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

    @stephanie @grivettcarnac I agree. I get equally pissed at people who think women should wear pantyhose. At any rate, hopefully a nice suit should be good enough for everyday and just wear ties for important meetings etc. Maybe keep a tie at work just in case. But I really think the government needs to rethink attire based on gender.

    @grivettcarnac Presumably it's Norovirus, which is really not anything like COVID (having had both). Hope you're feeling better soon.

    mariellequinton,
    @mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

    @grivettcarnac I didn't get a headache with COVID 😝 fever yes, but weirdly no headache. No nausea either. No body aches. Lost my sense of taste for a week though. As soon as I started to feel better, I couldn't taste anything 🤷🏼‍♀️ COVID was just weird.

    mariellequinton,
    @mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

    @grivettcarnac It was so weird too. Like I was feeling better and then I ate dinner and couldn't taste any of it. It was strange. And then the next morning I could taste breakfast just fine. My partner got me a PSL at lunch and I couldn't taste it. Couldn't taste anything for a week. Food was not terribly interesting and I kept worrying because you can't tell if the food in the fridge has gone off. You feel reassured if you can smell that it's ok. I'd be cooking dinner hoping everything was good. I kept putting cream in my coffee because I assumed there was texture component, but no, it just tasted like water. Hot water 😝

    mariellequinton,
    @mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

    @grivettcarnac It was so weird. It was scary because so many people said it took a long time for their taste to come back. Some people it never came back. I figured it would because a few times, in the morning, on my first sip of coffee for like half a second I could taste it. And then it was like I shorted out my taste receptors and then nothing. I was using pumpkin spice creamer so I could taste cinnamon etc for a moment and then before I could swallow it turned to water. This was better than my kid, for him almost everything just tasted terrible. It was hard to get him to eat at all. I couldn't imagine if he'd been a toddler and I couldn't have reasoned with him.

    mariellequinton,
    @mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

    @ottaross I would really like it if the government just took all the info and filed the taxes themselves. When my sister lived in Finland (she moved back to Canada in 2008) they'd just send her a notification (with a bill or whatever if needed). You could object, but otherwise zero paperwork.

    We're idiots and I have anxiety. We misunderstood each other, meters confused us with the trees, and I didn't fight back thinking Kyle knew better than me lol

    We definitely don't have space for two of the three trees we bought yesterday 🫠

    We'll have nice trees to donate (anyone? Lol).

    We'll keep the magnolia, and we got a dappled willow, a weeping larch and a dwarf Korean lilac instead. We feel stupid, but much better with our new choices.

    As I said, we're idiots.

    mariellequinton,
    @mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

    @stephanie I don't know what the Korean lilac is like, but we have a dwarf Siberian lilac and it's been doing it's job of not getting too big 😜 I planted it near the house so when it's in bloom and I have the windows open the house smells like lilac and it's wonderful. I have a big old normal one in the back, but it's too far to smell in the house.

    Meanwhile sobriety tests or speed limiters to drive your two tonne murder machine? Nah, have at it. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/e-scooters-ottawa-new-rules-1.7181991

    mariellequinton,
    @mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

    @casseagull @dan613 I wonder what it is about e-scooters that scare governments so much. In England privately owned ones are still illegal. You can only use them as a rental. It's so weird. I think of them as less capable e-bikes, which governments generally allow like bikes only with speed restrictions.

    mariellequinton,
    @mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

    @dan613 @casseagull I think it's the "reckless youth" thing. They think e-scooters are for twenty-somethings and e-bikes are for retirees. So it's the users they're trying to control and not the vehicles.
