Banning sex ed for under 9s is some of the weirdest nanny state shit I've ever seen out of the Tories. Like what problems was that even causing? How is this even an issue to be discussed?

It's amazing when the right decides it's had enough of nothing in particular happening and just manifests some new culture war front-line to drum up pitiful votes.

Also sneaking trans erasure into it is sickening. Gender identity is contested? What? Teachers legally being required to tell children that the existence of my friends and family members is debated? Just get in the sea that your other policies are slowly filling with shit.

You wouldn't believe the number of people who sign up to mastodon.gamedev.place with the justification "I want to follow Ron Gilbert"

mdiluz,

Ah looks like the latest wave (3 already this morning!) are probably coming from https://www.pcgamer.com/games/monkey-island-creator-ron-gilberts-next-game-is-classic-zelda-meets-diablo-meets-thimbleweed-park/

It is slightly funny to me that people don't realize how federation works, you don't actually need an account on this instance...

I've been switching more and more apps and websites to the bright UI. The legibility is so much better!
Sadly though, it seems like many designers are putting less effort in the bright UIs than they put in the dark ones (this is quite evident in Unity).

mdiluz,
@mdiluz@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@aras @ciro I'm just not a fan of white aesthetically - it's so clinical and unnatural. Dark modes feel much more true to nature.

I almost got a lighter out and started swaying mid way through! Also, the softly spoken "(software)" near the start is fun.

A theory I have that comes up every once in a while is that the 1:1 (almost) ratio of Moon/Sun size in our sky isn't so much a coincidence as a significant contributing factor to why civilisation developed here.

Eclipses like these are incredibly rare elsewhere, but pretty darn common on Earth. They're so damn whacko too, just absolutely cosmic level fuckery for any curious mildly intelligent life and surely must have ignited so many myths, legends, religions etc.

@popey thanks for being so open about this process. It hits a little too close to home for me too, though I've been waiting over a year for an NHS referral. Maybe I should have also gone for option 4 :(

@mdiluz@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

I think I actually broke #MarvelSnap.

I'm stuck in this game now, even killing the app reconnects to it. I can theorise why because I just played something so mathematically cursed I can't quite fathom what has happened to the engine...

To explain, this was then 6. I played Quake, then Rogue. My Mistique has already copied my Super Skrull.

I'm gonna try and figure out what's actually meant to happen here in the next toot...

mdiluz,
@mdiluz@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@MuseumShuffle yeah it's possible Red Hulk caused all this but he's just chilling, more likely my opponent played something like his own Mystique, making two more onslaughts and the game just imploded.

I've had time to reflect on my experience at and my takeaway is: I sincerely miss being "plugged in" to the community 24/7.

Tracking the amazing developments. Interviewing maintainers. Watching the joy as people discover all the cool corners of a distro they're trying for the 1st time. Having a platform like Forbes and YouTube to broadly share this stuff.

At SCaLE many people told me they miss @Linux4Everyone. I miss it too.

Just feeling conflicted and reflective today.

mdiluz,
@mdiluz@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@killyourfm @Linux4Everyone man there's this serious level of FOMO I have when I'm not riding waves with the community. Seeing everyone so involved and getting to events makes it harder too. Life is complicated that way, pushes in one direction and pulls in the other.

We're up to something like ~500 reports resolved from this latest spam attack on mastodon.gamedev.place. About a quarter of all time reports.

Nothing that can't be handled, but it's still a wild experience.

mdiluz,
@mdiluz@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@aras Ah yeah, I can see my wording making it seem like I thought we were special - edited!

It's annoying too because none of these accounts are ours, and each one targets a bunch of people across loads of servers. For every one we resolve there's a handful of other mods also needing to resolve that report for their server too.

Folks on the peoplemaking.games, yes we saw the spam (literal, sigh, very cute asshole) wave, we're on top of it. Lots and lots of suspensions/defeds this morning heh.

EDIT: please do keep reporting them though, the wave isn't done

mdiluz,
@mdiluz@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@glassbottommeg so much spam :( dealt with over 100 reports into he last day or two.

Masto needs federated moderation actions or something...

mdiluz,
@mdiluz@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@glassbottommeg I wouldn't mind sharing a blocklist with a chosen group of servers, or as an admin you're just able to choose another server to "clone" off?

mdiluz,
@mdiluz@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@glassbottommeg first I've heard of a defed being irreversible - can't you just undo the domain block?

aras, to random
@aras@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

Holy shit, waking up to a spambot flood. Luckily most of the spam accounts were from just several domains, so added some domain blocks, and now close to 1000 spambots should be suspended. But geez.

mdiluz,
@mdiluz@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@aras federated moderation is what I want - the ability to join up your mod lists with some other select servers and inherit their actions on posts and such

I'm searching for a game making toolkit that just lets me write code... Something that pretty much never requires using a GUI, though one being available for level editing is a plus.

In the past I've opted to roll my own thing with a graphics library of some kind, but usually the set up time to get going is long enough to eliminate my enthusiasm for the actual game creation part of the project.

Anyone have any suggestions?
