Holy shit, waking up to a spambot flood. Luckily most of the spam accounts were from just several domains, so added some domain blocks, and now close to 1000 spambots should be suspended. But geez.
Mastodon would benefit from somewhat better moderation/spam addressing tools. Most of what exists now seems to be geared towards dealing with problematic individuals, not with "there's a thousand automated accounts posting tens of thousands of mentions in minutes".
@aras federated moderation is what I want - the ability to join up your mod lists with some other select servers and inherit their actions on posts and such
Ooof. The spam continues. But now the spambots are no longer all coming from just a handful of servers with nothing else but spam on them. Which means, they have to be dealt one by one. its-fine.png
@shana 99% of these accounts are on other servers, they just post and mention random folks from all over the place. There's no place for "us" to put a new captcha even.
@aras@shana limiting/suspending traffic from said servers is the moderation tool you already have if it's a major problem, and tbh it's what many should do in order to pressure them to deploy some form of CAPTCHA
@bug@shana not sure that helps much. What I see here, is that there's like 5 spam accounts per, say, 500-legit-people server. There's a ton of servers (by design of the fediverse!). If there was some legit server with 500 spam accounts, then yeah maybe a domain block would help. But now it's just a handful.
