🔬📺 New project in the lab: the IBM AS/400 system (pictured on the cart in the background) and its OS/400, localized into Slovenian. IBM provided terminal keyboards with special characters (anyone for F24?), and terminal support is also in place.

🔎💿 Restoring ABM BBS: We've thoroughly studied everything we could find. With the recovered data, we've filled replacement disks of the same model (it won't accept any other), and the array is now "happy." Unfortunately, the data seems fragmented, with just bits of BBS conversations. We're still on the hunt for a valid file system.

Let's revisit Jason Scott's (@internetarchive) visit to our museum, a delightful throwback indeed! Scott (@textfiles) known for textfiles.com, a web archive preserving historical files, and for his documentary films "BBS: The Documentary" (2005) & "GET LAMP" (2010) about BBS culture and interactive fiction, is a prominent figure in digital archiving. The fireside chat, organized by our museum and moderated by Domen Savič, can be watched here: https://vimeo.com/783949972

🔑🔓 The kiosk for validating health cards is alive! Although the screen is quite dim, the XP operating system is up and running.💪

We've installed a screensaver on the exhibited Slovenian computer Partner to help preserve it for as long as possible 💚. Our colleague Matej also wisely avoided using the term "any key" to prevent anyone from searching too long for the "any" key on the keyboard 😅.

🐘 A 200 kg cabinet, part of the Iskra Delta 4850 system, equipped with four 14'' Fujitsu hard disks, has the same capacity (1 GB) as a 2-gram SD card. Today, microSD cards, weighing just 250 mg, carry a staggering 1 TB of storage capacity! 🤯

🕹️ Step back in time with us at the Computer Museum! 🚀 We brought the nostalgia to the streets with our "retro DOS playing" stand right in front of our museum. 💾

💾💾 We aspire to collect, preserve, and showcase as much Slovenian software for the DOS environment as possible. Many of these treasures have been unearthed from aging hard drives, while others have been graciously contributed by generous donors.😍

🟥⬛ Within our collection, we proudly house three rare household computers, the Oric Nova 64, specifically adapted for the Yugoslavian market from the Oric Atmos (Tangerine Computer Systems, 1984). One of these units is particularly fascinating due to its inclusion of engraved Yugoslav (YU) characters. 😍

The ID80 standalone computer.
The Iskradata 80, a distributed computer system developed and manufactured in 1979 and 1980 in Slovenia, featured a Z80 processor, two 256-kB floppy disk drives, and a printer. Distributed processing allowed database access on the network. Computers could work independently or in a network of up to 16, connecting via RS-232 and using sync/asyn protocols for transfers.

The Iskra Delta “Triglav” computer serves as a testament to Slovenia's remarkable contributions to the world of computing. Triglav, which translates to "Trident" in English, stands as a noteworthy addition to the esteemed Iskra Delta series that emerged in the 1980s. You can also obtain a stylish t-shirt featuring its iconic design!

Did you know that IBM OS/2 was also localized into Slovenian? And that for a period in the late 90s, it even illuminated the top of the TR/3 building in Ljubljana? The search for a copy of this rare software, along with stories and photo material, reads like a true detective story! 👉 https://www.racunalniski-muzej.si/slovenski-os-2-warp-4/
