It's a miracle to me how my partner gets anything done with 2 babies and a little kid at home. She cooks every day, takes care of the twins, plays with our 3 year old, cleans, does the groceries... She's an effin' machine! For example, the other day she casually made this cake for her goddaughter. 🙃

I'm fairly sure I've heard the term "future music" used idiomatically to mean a thing to consider in the future.

I was trying to pin it down so I could check I was using it properly, but not finding reference to it anywhere.

Is it even a thing?

mxbck,
@mxbck@front-end.social avatar

@sarajw jup, "das ist Zukunftsmusik" means something like "we don't need to bother with this right now / let's cross that bridge when we get there"

mxbck,
@mxbck@front-end.social avatar

@sarajw ah I assumed you meant that, I only know that term from German. Might have different meaning in other languages 😅

Bedeutet 'aufgeregt' 'excited'?

Also, mit positiv oder negativ Bedeutung?

In English 'excited' usually means a positive thing - like, happy-excited.

I find the German 'aufgeregt' and 'gespannt' confusing - they're sort of neutral, or are they? Do I have to qualify in a sentence whether I'm happy or stressed-out/unhappy when using them, or is it all contextual?

mxbck,
@mxbck@front-end.social avatar

@sarajw @matuzo "vorfreudig" would be "happy with anticipation". there's also "hibbelig" which loosely translates to "giddy / twitchy"

has anyone tried eleventy with sanity as CMS? what's your experience? yay or nay?

links to "production ready" templates/starters are appreciated as well ❤️

mxbck,
@mxbck@front-end.social avatar

@zachleat ah good point. so sanity doesn't allow content to be saved as draft?
the ability to do a staging env is indeed something I'm looking for. Would you generally prefer a git-based CMS to an API-based one?

mxbck,
@mxbck@front-end.social avatar

@zachleat got it, thanks! I was thinking of including drafts only in preview builds, through some env setting in the query or something.

I'm evaluating a few possible CMS solutions at the moment for a client project. Ideally I want to combine this with our existing eleventy setup that deploys to cloudflare.

btw I'm looking at cloudcannon as well, although there's more of a push for API-based. lots of things to consider 😅

Which also means that I’ll have to upgrade my personal site from Craft 2 to Craft 3 to Craft 4 to Craft 5 now… 😂✌️

WOW! The first article on CSS Tricks in almost a year and it's ridiculously bad.

I don't care who they hire and how much money they throw at them, that's it for me with CSS-Tricks. Thanks for nothing Digital Ocean.

tried upgrading a project to eleventy v3 and switch to ESM imports and wow that was way easier than expected. 😍

@eleventy why is my terminal not screaming at me more

mxbck,
@mxbck@front-end.social avatar

@nhoizey @eleventy here's a peak at the package.json - setup has a few plugins and custom code; switching from CJS to ESM was quite straightforward. I'm guessing most support both out of the box

mxbck,
@mxbck@front-end.social avatar

@nhoizey @eleventy I'm on node v20.11 and basically

const x = require('x')
and
import x from 'x'

were interchangeable

🤔 I’m preparing my talk at the moment and I’d be glad to hear your thoughts:

In which areas do you see the most potential for innovative web design when it comes to the latest and greatest features?

Like, which CSS features would you recommend a designer (or developer) to learn who wants to create outstanding work for the Web in 2024? ✨

mxbck,
@mxbck@front-end.social avatar

@matthiasott in terms of producing novel design: (sub)grid, view transitions, scroll-timeline

for better code architecture: layers, container/style queries, :has

I lost my example of "a blog with a save for offline button that lets you read even when there is no connection". Anyone has seen (or implemented on your blog) one of those recently? You can totally plug your own content here if it has such feature!

mxbck,
@mxbck@front-end.social avatar

@stephaniewalter I remember @Una having that on her blog. The feature may have been removed in a redesign, but the how-to post is still here:

You're allowed to post on your blog once every decade, and you don't even need to apologize for it. That's also part of having your own space.

Personal sites aren't a competition, and productivity doesn't have to be a metric.
