nickiam2,

I would really like a community for Volkswagen cars with q&a on mechanical problems, tips etc so I can stop going to reddit

nickiam2,

Works great. Setup a month ago and imported over 600 documents, both digital and scanned. Makes backup a lot easier too as everything is in one place now.

nickiam2,

Google has always been primarily an advertising company

nickiam2,

Yeah they merged last year, but its still a work in progress and we still have distinct kmarts and targets

nickiam2,

I’ve had a framework for 2 years now. It’s run fedora, manjaro (arch based) and Debian with no major issues. Manjaro had some problems with KDE and the high DPI screen. Sometimes the scaling was inconsistent between apps. Fedora just works.

Only hardware issue is the battery life is just not that great. And the trackpad doesn’t always work property, but I think that was a first generation issue that’s been resolved since.

nickiam2,

The easiest way is to setup tailscale on the server, then share the server with the web interface. Your friends/family simply install the tailscale client, login, and it just connects like magic. No port forwarding or firewall configuration required. There’s plenty of how-tos out there.

Alabama calls nitrogen execution method 'painless' and 'humane,' but critics raise doubts (apnews.com)

Alabama, unless stopped by the courts, intends to strap Kenneth Eugene Smith to a gurney Thursday and use a gas mask to replace breathable air with nitrogen, depriving him of oxygen, in the nation’s first execution attempt with the method....

nickiam2,

Nitrogen narcosis is caused by the high pressure exposure to nitrogen in the air divers breathe underwater. Its different to hypoxia, which is a lack of oxygen. It can cause a euphoria and can be dangerous if the diver loses focus and makes a mistake. The effects are completely reversed by ascending and have no long term effect.

nickiam2,

Well actually, its usually much safer for a cyclists to keep moving at an intersection like that. It takes far less time for them to clear the intersection than coming to a full dead stop and starting again. I can see and hear everything on approach much better than anyone inside a 2 ton metal box. In some places its perfectly legal for a bicycle to treat stop sighs like a give way.

Getting on the sidewalk often has its own hazards, like the sidewalk randomly ending and starting again for no reason, people, and shop doors.

nickiam2,

I’ve never seen one with 2 different sauces tho. Such a good idea

nickiam2,

Every time I update my flatpak apps I get a warning about deprecated libraries. I don’t think flatpak is the issue but rather apps being able to not update really old libraries that could have security patches available. Does anyone know of a way to force these old libraries to update?

nickiam2,

I went that route with an unlocked ASUS zenfone and it turns out that phone is impossible to replace the screen on because replacement parts are not available where I live. I had to buy a new phone without a headphone jack. Check for parts availability before buying something from a smaller brand.

nickiam2,

One is a truck made for actual work and the other is an abomination pretending to be a truck.

nickiam2,

So why not just use the van? At least the cargo space is covered from the elements. Most people who drove these yank tanks don’t actually need the truck part.

nickiam2,

To be fair, lighting is the most important part of generating photorealistic graphics. Having realistic and real-time lighting makes it look so much more realistic

nickiam2,

I use a mokapot, but I also run fedora on my laptop. What does that make me?

nickiam2,

I personally don’t believe in copyright. Nobody should be able to own an idea or data and be able to tell me what i can and cannot do with said 1s and 0s, which is what digital media is. I will find other ways to support artists and creators like going to concerts, donating or buying merchandise etc… You can’t steal data because nobody owns it to begin with in my view.

Anything confidential should be kept encrypted or offline of course.

nickiam2,

This is exactly where I’m coming from.

In what world does a VPN need access to Camera and Bluetooth? (i.imgur.com)

I am fully aware of what vpn services to use and not. I am not using Express VPN, I am simply doing research for a master thesis, when I came across these results from Express VPN. If you have any ideas or corrections, please let me know why a VPN provider would need to have access to these permissions....

nickiam2,

To be fair, the calculator on my phone has a built in currency converter and would need network access to get the exchange rates

nickiam2,

AirVPN still has port forwarding. They are run by a non profit activist group and you can use it without their app. Works with openvpn and wireguard natively.

nickiam2,

Its quite common around here to see height restrictions signed in mm. For example a car park entrance might have a sign labeled 1800mm max height

Shkshkshk, to piracy

Is ProtonVPN worth it?

@piracy

Got reminded of this while reading about ProtonMail. The reason I haven't gotten into proper is that I don't have a VPN for torrenting, and the reason I don't have a VPN is that I don't . So it would be nice if I got a good VPN while myself.

Will ProtonVPN rat me out to Comcast? I know some VPNs don't hide what you're downloading from your ISP, for reasons I don't fully understand.

nickiam2,

If you’re getting protonmail anyway the bundle is worth it. You can use their client software or native wireguard. I personally use AirVPN, run by an activist group. Their website isn’t shiny, but the VPN works great and has port forwarding which is really good for torrent connectivity.

I don’t think with the Swiss privacy laws governing Proton you don’t have to worry about them ratting to Comcast

nickiam2,

GrayJay just came out into the testing phase. It not only supportsYouTubee but also Nebula, Odysee, Twitch, PeerTube and a few others with more to come. Works great so far. grayjay.app. Built by Futo, a nonprofit company which Louis Rossmann works for. His video here

nickiam2,

You do know where that cash back is coming from, right? Everything you buy has credit card fees baked into the price. The business pays anywhere from 1-5% on every transaction to accept your payment, and a small percent of that is returned to you as “cash back” rewards. Its why I’ve switched back to using cash and any coins I get as change go into a jar. That earns much more than %10 “cash back”, and some shops even make the customers pay the CC fee here in aus so I get a small “discount” too.

nickiam2,

Where in the world do these things live? I’ve never seen anything like it before, and we have some pretty crazy things you can find in a house here in Aus
