@krzyzanowskim This happened to me yesterday and today. Closing and re-opening Xcode resolved it for me, but I didn’t learn that until after I re-downloaded it the first time.

@marcoarment @_Davidsmith I’ve been listening to podcasts for a long time (Smart Speed has saved me 507 hours so far). I have found Under the Radar to be invaluable. It’s the only show in my Starred playlist. Thanks so much for continuing to provide value. It’s helping to shape how I approach my personal project. Your Pillars series is so incredibly helpful.

@BasicAppleGuy I just snagged a Commander: 2024 Black Edition in turquoise. If money was no object to me, I’d buy one of everything. The decision was much more difficult than anticipated.

For me, the year ends in 24 hours. And I have this tradition: on the last day of the year, I‘ll answer any question absolutely truthfully and with complete honesty. So between now and my next midnight, ask me anything and I’ll give an honest and compassionate answer.

(I’ll answer in the same visibility level as your question)

@daniel @marcpalmer I did find a couple of open issues I’d like to try tackling. Maybe I’ll start tonight. 😀

I noticed that some of my section headers are being truncated in my settings menu with the largest accessibility text sizes.

I tried using a ".fixedSize(horizontal: false, vertical: true)" to prevent this, but then part of the word gets obstructed.

Is there a way to address this?

nickkohrn,
@nickkohrn@techhub.social avatar

@MuseumShuffle Are you using a title or headline system font? I ask because those don’t seem to wrap. I’ve had to resort to using body font and setting the font weight.

My post about Apple and analog clocks got a lot of attention yesterday. Thanks for the likes, boosts, and comments.

My favorite tip that I got was from @adamsimmersive. You can make the X-Large watch face display the time horizontally if you enable the one complication it supports. The time isn't in the center and one enormous complication isn't ideal, but I can actually see myself using this face sometimes. That's especially true now that I can see widgets with a double tap.

nickkohrn,
@nickkohrn@techhub.social avatar

@MuseumShuffle I use this face for my Sleep Focus. I use the Sleep complication so I can see my alarm and how long I’ve slept. It’s a really nice face for that.

nickkohrn,
@nickkohrn@techhub.social avatar

@MuseumShuffle @thillsman Wait, what’s this you speak of?

Reveal's Insights is incredibly cool, and seems like something everyone should use >> https://revealapp.com/news/introducing-insights-and-new-pricing/

nickkohrn,
@nickkohrn@techhub.social avatar

@kyleve I just started using it today! I’m seeing a bunch of warnings when using stock SwiftUI layouts I can’t control, though (.searchable, wrapped UIKit close button in navigation bar, alert text not being scalable, etc). However, it’s clear that the level of effort put into this tool is immense. I’m excited to have it help me learn more about building accessible apps.

@twostraws In “What's the difference between ModelContainer, ModelContext, and ModelConfiguration?”, should the first bullet point of “ModelContainer is responsible for creating and managing the actual database file used all SwiftData’s storage needs.” be “ModelContainer is responsible for creating and managing the actual database file used in all of SwiftData’s storage needs.”?

https://www.hackingwithswift.com/quick-start/swiftdata/whats-the-difference-between-modelcontainer-modelcontext-and-modelconfiguration

nickkohrn,
@nickkohrn@techhub.social avatar

@twostraws In the same article, “Model contexts provide some extra functionality that is often useful, including the ability to undo or redo changes, and the ability enable or disable autosave.” should have “and the ability to enable or disable”

nickkohrn,
@nickkohrn@techhub.social avatar

@twostraws thanks for being receptive to this type of feedback. I know grammar corrections can be annoying, especially when you publish a vast amount of text, as you do.

While I was eagerly skimming the contents, I noticed, what I assume is, a word missing (“write”) in the unit tests title under the Architecture section.

I’d love it if Mastodon clients showed a post frequency metric on profiles. At this point I’m really careful who I follow, because I’m a timeline completionist and I don’t want to be overwhelmed.

nickkohrn,
@nickkohrn@techhub.social avatar

@finestructure One thing I’ve recently implemented is disabling boosts for everyone I follow. It has significantly cut down on the noise in my timeline, making it easier for me, also a timeline completionist, to spend less time scrolling.

This truly reads like a perfect phishing email.

nickkohrn,
@nickkohrn@techhub.social avatar

@mergesort At some previous employers of mine, employees were routinely tested by the company. The company would send out phishing emails to test whether employees opened them. I stopped opening all emails from the company after I had to retake security courses due to my opening of some which were incredibly difficult to identify as phishing attempts. There has to be a better way.

Let’s (try to) crowdsource the names of the original apps and games!

I’m writing a piece on the App Store turning 15, and I couldn’t find a list of the original ~500 App Store apps and games from 11 July 2008, which I thought was strange. @jamesthomson, whose PCalc was there from the start, suggested we might be able to crowdsource this, for posterity and future research.

Here’s the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EpEm01wn18K1Nh_xDU8jZYwRfL9f6KkYUMjJvUPZpc4/edit#gid=0

If you have info to add to it, please do. Please share!
