nickwitha_k,

US Chamber of Commerce is a Conservative lobby group with a name meant to sound innocuous. Local CoCs run the gamut but are generally for small to mid businesses to network and collectively engage when the local government. Kinda like a union but for bosses.

nickwitha_k,

I dunno. Are your polzei intentionally firing rubber baton rounds at protesters’ heads, breaking limbs, and pepper-spraying at point-blank? Haven’t seen it reported as happening yet for the Gaza protests but there’s a load of people from the BLM protests (where people wanted police to stop murdering fellow citizens) that suffered blindness and/or traumatic brain injuries (among other things) as a result.

I really hope your police aren’t as bad as those in the US. Here they are generally legally untouchable and can even straight-up rob you by charging your property with a crime (they can it “civil asset forfeiture” and despite it being blatantly against the word and spirit of our Constitution, the courts keep declaring it somehow legal).

nickwitha_k,

Most forms of anarchism are extremely pro-social and left-wing, unlike nearly every portrayal in media. The word anarchy itself simply means “without rulers”. So, it’s understandable that those with a vested interest in avoiding such conditions would want to portray it negatively.

One of the major foundational assumptions in nearly all forms of anarchism is that hierarchical power structures are fundamentally unjust, unnecessary, and exploitative. Additionally, an important common assumption is that must humans are cooperative and, given the opportunity, engage in mutual aid (I’d argue that this is well-documented in history). So, as an anarchist, I’d say that the that the removal of the established power structures would lead to a more fair world where everyone is enabled to pursue their interests and strengths, rather than being sabotaged by things outside of their control, like what family they are born into, or ground down by the orphan crushing machine that maintains societal stratification.

nickwitha_k,

Every time I visit Ireland I’m straight to the local shop to get locally butchered, prepared meals at 3 trays for €10. Each tray is two portions. I’m always losing weight with each visit - good quality and price is just so much better.

nickwitha_k,

I don’t support dumpster diving, unless it’s a necessity. There is a lot of stuff that can make you really sick that goes into those. But, if you are forced because of your situation, be mindful of signs of food spoilage and types of food that are most risky.

Spoilage signs:

  • visible mold (green/white/blue/fuzzy, musty odor)
  • visible bacterial growth (most likely on moist and liquid items - yellow tint in items that should be clear, white streaks across item surface that shouldn’t be there, smelling “off” - not how it should smell)

High-risk items:

  • Meats
  • Fish
  • Eggs
  • Dairy
  • High-moisture foods
  • Sauces
  • High-sugar foods (at high-enough concentrations, sugar is preservative but, we’re talking candied ginger there, not koolaide)

Safest foods are going to be things like dried beans and other legumes (when cooked properly).

Another suggestion would be to keep an eye on late night line cooks. Be friendly and avoid being a nuisance to them or their customers. Some might be friendly, understand your situation (possibly from experience), and offer fresher food than you get from a dumpster. If you build rapport, some might be willing to barter for help with closing tasks.

Yet another suggestion: look into non-profit orgs in your area. If you are not able to afford food for lack of work, some may be able to help.

nickwitha_k,

Hey now. It’s all about perspective. If you think about it in terms of geological history or the history of the universe, the discovery pretty much just happened.

nickwitha_k,

She probably won’t give a shit about social pressure. She was appointed because she is corrupt/corruptable.

Outside Groups Spent $285,000 Backing Jamaal Bowman. AIPAC Alone Just Dropped Nearly $2 Million to Attack Him. (theintercept.com)

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s super PAC has launched its first ads attacking Rep. Jamaal Bowman in the Democratic primary in New York’s 16th Congressional District. The ads claim that Bowman “has his own agenda” and refuses to work with President Joe Biden....

nickwitha_k,

Yeah… It is pretty crazy that a PAC explicitly intended to give influence to a foreign country is legal in any way.

nickwitha_k,

Pretty sure that the kilt was invented by an Englishman so that scots working in his factories would be less likely to get clothing caught in the machinery and maimed. I say this as a kilt-loving descendent of scots.

nickwitha_k,

For a muzzleloader hunting, the firearms are generally not designed for use with smokeless powder. The higher pressures generated could cause fatal failures. Generally, “real” black powder or a black powder substitute like pyrodex is used. These both burn more slowly and generate less pressure than modern smokeless powder, resulting in lower muzzle velocities.

In order to hunt ethically (not to mention legally), this necessitates taking the “classic” approach of throwing a bigger bullet to make up for the impact of velocity on the muzzle energy. Hornady’s data shows that it takes a .50 caliber, 250gr bullet to reach the muzzle energy of a .308 caliber, 175gr load.

[ In fake Scottish accent ] They’re natural enemies. Like fascists and leftists! Or neoliberals and leftists! Or moderates and leftists! Or leftists and leftists! Damn leftists! They ruined leftism!

nickwitha_k,

A large portion also think that it’s a requirement for the apocalypse, which, being a doomsday cult, they are actively trying to achieve.

nickwitha_k,

Or, taps temple thoughtfully don’t have data that you care about. That way you never have to worry about data loss. (/S)

nickwitha_k,

Shared libraries/dynamically-linked libraries, along with faster storage solve a lot of the historical optimization issues. Modern compilers and OSes general take care of that, if the right flags are used. With very few AAA games using in-house engines, it’s even less work for the studio, supposing the game engine developers are doing their jobs.

That said, you do still have a bit of a point. Proper QA requires running the software on all supported platforms, so, there is a need for additional hardware, if not offloading QA to customers via “Early Access”. Adding to that, there are new CPU architectures in the wild (or soon to be) that weren’t there 5 years ago and may not yet be well-supported with the toolchains.

Gaben is absolutely correct on practice though, it’s a distribution problem. EA, Epic, and the rest trying to force their storefront launchers and invasive DRM that makes the experience worse for the end users drives people to pirate more.

nickwitha_k,

Also, not usually one to kink shame but the fact that one of the most mainstream fetishes is “school girl” is rather problematic to me.

nickwitha_k,

Be like Andrew Taint😎

On trial for assault, rape and human trafficking in multiple countries after being found on the scene at the raid of a sex slavery operation?

nickwitha_k,

You’d first check for nil values, then compare like normal. Extra step, yes, but it keeps you from hitting NPEs through that route.

nickwitha_k,

The laws of Conservation of Mass and Thermodynamics say “no”. Regenerative agriculture can be very good for the land over time but cannot provide the same outputs without similar inputs, without depleting soil. You can’t take energy and matter from one place forever without replacing it.

Personally, I think a multi-pronged approach would be best:

  • reduce conventional meat consumption and production (replace with vegetable matter to both improve population health and reduce ecological strain)
  • increase investment in "lab meat"
  • increase investment in basic research related to animal husbandry with focus on adapting livestock to better suit their environments and domestication of novel livestock (ex. bison which are only semi-domesticated).
nickwitha_k,

I hope not. I want more types of sentient beings to exist. But, I also don’t believe any company is actually working towards AGI.

nickwitha_k,

I would argue: Anti-work is everyone having the choice if living like a king and eating Doritos and nobody doing hard work, if they don’t want to.

Some people enjoy and get great satisfaction from hard work. Most people are inclined to do some form of work (including creative) rather than be completely idle. They should be allowed to do so, if they wish.

nickwitha_k,

“Resistance is just, like, an opinion, man.”

Should I date now if I have to move in a few months to a place that is hours away by car and would likely have more potential suitors?

Please be kind as this topic is a pain point for me. I’m feeling the pressure of finding my significant other because I’m at an age where it seems like everyone in my social media feed is getting engaged, married, or having kids. The issue is I have a huge transition coming up and will have to move in a few months to a place...

nickwitha_k,

It is definitely possible and I have spent much less time on social media overall these recent years. Societal expectations/norm, family asking, my own internal thoughts contribute surely contribute too. How does one look past all of these reminders?

At the end of your day, year, or lifetime, none of those other people’s opinions matter. You are the one who will be most impacted by your decisions and experience the benefits or consequences, not them. Please do not make major life decisions because of others’ expectations. Get married, or don’t, have kids, or don’t but make these decisions because they are what you want in life. You are responsible for your life.

I’d also recommend continuing to reduce social media consumption, especially corporate social media. These companies are interested in profiting off of your unhappiness and will manipulate the posts that you see to drive “engagement”.

nickwitha_k,

It’s cool. The neolibs allowed (and encouraged) heights of commodification of education so egregious that much of a generation has been robbed of levels of literacy that were considered “normal” in previous generations.
