Yesterday! That’s right, two decades ago my wife and I were visiting SF at this time of year, right around the Bay To Breakers.
To this day I cannot fully wrap my head around the concept that a city would host such a peculiar event with mass public nudity, and I applaud it, a non-prudish attitude towards one’s own body is a healthy attitude, at minimum it’s a step in the right direction.
But instead of going to see the Bay To Breakers, we opted for something… shall we say… a little more refined, more spiritual? We attended Sunday morning service at an African Orthodox church.
There I was, an atheist, dragging my wife to Sunday mass, so what gives? This was something special, The Church Of Saint John Coltrane. Three hour service, two and a half of 'em live jazz, with around 10 or 12 musicians.
Afterwards, we congratulated the bishop for the extraordinary experience, and at his recommendation, my wife and I had lunch at a soul food restaurant nearby.
That was a special, special Sunday, I do not regret missing out on the Bay To Breakers that day.
I see what you mean… I think. Let’s see if I can be more specific:
Considering that time slows down for particles moving near lightspeed, I was trying to visualize the universe immediately after the Big Bang, if it being so hot - or energetic, I think I mean to say - made time slow down in the entire, still tiny universe. And what effect this may have possibly had in the outcome we observe today.
Yeah… what are the dynamics of such an extreme moment? How does a moment like that unfold from the perspective of a particle that was there?
Does time “start slow” before reaching the “stable rhythm” we experience today?
The fact that I felt compelled to use quotes twice in the previous sentence betrays the fact that I don’t even know how to ask what I’m trying to ask.
I saw the whole damn thing in one night, but I had nothing else to do, sitting on standby keeping an eye on my old sleeping cat, he just started medical treatment and the good news seems to be that it’s working and the side effects are not too bad.
But yeah, your post gave me something perfect to pass the time with during the wee hours.
Was Mark an apostle? My memory may be glitching, because I have the impression that only Matthew and John were actual original apostles. About Luke I am certain that he was from Greece and several decades later.
They have an environmental contingency alert this week, I believe, where cars with license plates with a particular ending are prohibited from circulating in the streets, the next day it’s cars with another ending that cannot be driven, rotating 1/5 of all cars each weekday.
But on Sundays, I believe traffic is by itself much lower than on weekdays, so any and all cars are allowed to circulate.
Unsurprisingly, this guy also chases Category 5 hurricanes. Driving around flooded streets even during sea surges, looking for shelter only when the inner storm wall is about to hit. Driving around with a bunch of cameras and redundant satellite hookups and whatnot, in their heavily-equipped modified pickup trucks.

Does anyone else see an alleged old painting or black-and-white photo you've never seen before, are unsure if it's legit or a recent fake created with AI?
For example, places like HistoryPorn have some bizarre pictures of weird inventions or WWII experimental weapons....
